HDR is looking for a Substation PC Engineering Manager/Team Lead (EM/TL) to join our growing and nationally ranked team of Power Delivery professionals. The Substation PC Engineering Manager will be responsible for knowledge and execution of the technical aspects and deliverables of projects assigned to them. They must be a competent engineer who can complete all technical requirements of projects from basic to moderate complexity. They will also be expected to support the growth of a Substation team and assign tasks to junior level staff while providing technical mentorship to the team. They will coordinate quality control reviews for work performed by junior level engineers and/or designers. This position also entails working with Senior Engineers and the Business Class Leader to identify and develop specific technical expertise. They wil be expected to attend training seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline. They may also assist with developing technical papers and presentations that showcase HDR’s technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events. They will establish strong client relationships in the region and an in-depth understanding of our clients’ business objectives to determine effective execution strategies, and then build local teams to leverage existing staff across the company to execute work and deliver world class services to those clients. They will also manage individual projects within their technical expertise. On a day-to-day basis, they will also be expected to:

Be responsible for monitoring, growing and participating in the execution of HDR’s portfolio of Power Delivery services throughout the North Carolina Region. Manage key projects and programs, including managing technical staff and sub-consultant teams to meet project delivery needs and exceed client expectations. Participate in power delivery marketing efforts, communications and client development with business, operations, marketing and project staff to maximize client satisfaction, company growth and profitability. Work with local and regional operations and national leadership to build capabilities through recruitment and staff training. Assist with the development of technical papers and presentations that showcase HDR’s capabilities and industry experience.Be responsible for quality control reviews in accordance with HDR policy.Plan and manage all aspects of small to medium single-discipline planning projects or large, routine projectsIndependently coordinate work of engineers and balance planning team throughout entire the project's developmentCoordinate workload throughout entire project development, and ensure completion of documents on schedule.Track financial aspects of projects, and coordinate/adjust work efforts with teams to ensure that work is completed within parameters of agreed-to schedule.Perform other duties as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous consulting firm experience desiredPrevious staff supervision experience preferredBachelor’s Degree in Electrical EngineeringPE LicenseDesign experience with high voltage electrical switchyard and substation projects of varying complexity up to 500kV, including at a minimum, conceptual knowledge of PC design and knowledge of IEEE ANSI, and other applicable design standardsExperience using industry standard design software (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation)Ability to travel, less than 10%Local candidates are preferredLI-SM1Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experienceA minimum of 7 years experience Professional registration, license or certification may be required based on role Strong communication and listening skills Ability to handle multiple assignments Good leadership and organizational skills An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
