Substation Physical DesignerJob Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Physical Designer in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our Houston office. Flexibility is available to work remotely, hybrid, or onsite, depending on the candidate's location and preferences.

ResponsibilitiesThe position includes working within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design and understanding and adhering to client standards.Perform the detailed Physical design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical designs include but are not limited to:One-line diagramsPhysical layoutsSubstation equipment selectionSubstation general arrangement plans, sections, and elevationsControl building design and detailsCable and conduit plans and detailsGround grid design and detailsLightning protection design and detailsYard lighting design and detailsMaterial listsAC and DC systems calculations and sizingWork with engineers to develop drawing packagesCoordinate designs with other disciplines such as Substation Protection & Control, Structural, and CivilParticipate in quality assurance and quality control programsContribute to engineering project scheduling and budget managementRequired Education/ExperienceAssociate's degree or equivalent technical educationExtensive experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStationExperience in electric utility substation physical designElectrical and mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detailGood command of the Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel and WordStrong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnelLegally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship

Desired Education/Experience

4 or more years’ experience providing physical design for electric utility substation projects up to 500 KVFamiliarity with Raster Design and/or Bentley DescartesAbility to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, client examples, vendor drawings, and suchAbility to select materials based on technical requirements
