POWER Engineers is currently seeking a Substation Physical Designer in the Power Delivery Substation Department in our Columbus, Ohio office. An in-office and/or hybrid work environment is available for this position.
Role and ResponsibilitiesThis position includes working within a team to complete complex and technically challenging aspects of electrical utility substation design and understanding and adhering to client standardsPerform the detailed Physical design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations. Typical designs include but not limited to:One-line diagramsPhysical layoutsSubstation equipment selectionSubstation general arrangement plans, sections, and elevationsControl building design and detailsCable and conduit plans and detailsGround grid design and detailsLightning protection design and detailsYard lighting design and detailsMaterial listsAC and DC systems calculations and sizingWork with engineers to develop drawing packagesCoordinate designs with other disciplines such as Substation Protection & Control, Structural, and CivilParticipate in quality assurance and quality control programsContribute to engineering project scheduling and budget managementRequired Education/Experience Associate's degree or equivalent technical educationExperience performing design in BIM software (Inventor, P4A, Primtech)Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation; experience with both is preferredUnderstanding of electric utility substation designElectrical and mechanical reasoning skills and attention to detailExperience with Microsoft Office Suite, with an emphasis on Outlook, Excel, Word, and One NoteMust have a strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnelCandidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorshipDesired Education/ExperienceThree (3) or more years experience in electric utility substation design is preferredFamiliarity with Raster Design and/or Bentley DescartesAbility to produce applicable drawings from rough sketches, notes, client examples, vendor drawings, and suchAbility to select materials based on technical requirementsAt POWER Engineers, you can have a rewarding career on every level.
