Come join our Early Intervention Team as a Substitute Behavior Specialist for the Up to 3 Early Intervention Program, where you will make a difference in the lives of children and their families by addressing child behavior concerns through parent coaching.

 

The Up to 3 Early Intervention Program is part of the Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice at Utah State University. We are an in-home pediatric program in northern Utah whose mission is to promote the development of children under the age of 3 who have a disability or a developmental delay through quality, evidence-based therapy services in a nurturing and supportive natural environment.

 

As part of our team, you will have the opportunity to coach parents, facilitate groups, and provide strategies that will help children meet behavioral developmental goals.

 

This position is to cover maternity leave for our current behavior specialist, 40 hours per week from about April through July. This is a temporary substitute position.

 

This position will be based on the USU-Logan Campus when not on home visits. This is an hourly position and not eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities Provide parent training for children enrolled in the Up to 3 Program in face-to-face and virtual services, if parents request, through individual parent coaching and group training.Coach parents to address challenging behaviors of children as identified on their individual service plan.Assess child behavior, help develop IFSP goals, participate in staff and team meetings, travel to homes and community sites to provide parent coaching services, and facilitate Benefits of Play (BOP) classes for families.Work and coordinate with the Up to 3 administration and staff to work effectively as an independent and self-motivated professional staff member.Complete scheduling and documentation as required.Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Family and Human Development, Social Work, Marriage and Family Therapy, Behavioral Science, Disability Studies, Early Childhood Education, or a related field.Skills, knowledge, and experience specifically focused on the needs of young children (birth to 3 years) and their families.

Preferred Qualifications

Possess or have the ability to obtain a Baby Watch Early Intervention Credential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Effective oral and written communication skills.Organizational skills with timely data entry, scheduling, and priority setting.Excellent interpersonal, networking, community, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.A commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth, including a willingness to engage in ongoing multicultural development and dialogues.Ability to identify behavior concerns in young children and coach families on strategies to decrease child behavior. Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and/or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.

Funding Statement

The Institute for Disability Research, Policy, & Practice is one of the largest research and outreach centers at USU, and we are largely funded through grants, contracts, and fee-for-service programs. All staff positions at the IDRPP are contingent upon funding, and all senior staff at the IDRPP with graduate degrees are responsible for helping to generate funding to support our operations and growth.
