Success Mentor 12/23/24Part Time--Bronx #### Job ID: 007496 #### Description: Bronx Career and College Prep (800 Home St) $20.00 Hourly **Position Summary: ** Under the supervision of the Community School Director at Bronx Career and College Prep HS, Success Mentors will work with chronically absent students to address the barriers preventing consistent school attendance and help them achieve their educational goals. Success Mentors will identify the underlying causes of poor attendance, such as family challenges or health issues, and collaborate with CAS staff and the DOE to find solutions. In addition to academic tutoring, Success Mentors may lead group activities, work directly with students, and help organize events. **Essential Duties: ** * Understand and promote the organization’s Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures * Check in daily with a caseload of assigned youth, meeting regularly one-on-one and in small groups to discuss their academic progress, listen to their needs, provide tutoring, and address any academic concerns * Meet and greet assigned youth each morning/afternoon as they arrive at school or the program site, and make early morning calls to absent students * Track attendance and celebrate improvements * Collaborate with school and site leadership to identify appropriate interventions that support and engage mentees * Under the direction of the Site Director, seek advice and identify targeted youth or family support from school staff and community-based partners * Maintain detailed notes on attendance patterns, student needs, and interventions, ensuring data monitoring is strategic * Attend or be represented at weekly/bi-weekly student success meetings to share best practices, challenges, and updates on youth progress * When working with groups of youth, establish and maintain an effective system of classroom management that promotes pro-social behavior and self-discipline * Communicate regularly with the Program/Site Director or designated CAS personnel regarding needs and resources to support chronically absent youth * Perform other tasks as assigned **Minimum Qualifications:** * Associate’s degree or currently enrolled in an accredited college in lieu of a degree. * Experience working with high school students. **Key Competencies:** * Strong organization and follow-up skills * Ability to exercise sound judgment * Effective listener with demonstrated interpersonal and communication abilities * Proven classroom management skills, with expertise in employing a variety of behavior management techniques to create a safe and engaging learning environment * Deep understanding of and sensitivity to the emotional, social, and academic needs of students at various developmental stages * Proven ability to motivate, challenge, and engage students, ensuring their commitment and active participation throughout the program. #### Requirements: Job Type Part Time Location --Bronx ###
