Summer 2025: Woodward Copper Action Sports Camp Nurse

Copper Mountain Resort is a vacation destination located 75 miles west of Denver, Colorado in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Job Title: Woodward Copper Action Sports Camp Nurse

Job Status: Seasonal

Compensation and Benefits:

Compensation: Proposed hiring rate of $2,384.62 to $2,563.46+ biweekly amount, actual pay will be adjusted based on experience.

Benefits: This is a seasonal position eligible for season pass for employees and privileges at several other resorts.  Several discount programs (i.e. food & beverage, retail/rental, tickets, etc.) also available. 

Job Summary:

The Woodward Copper Camp Nurse will be responsible for providing medical coverage to Woodward Copper campers and staff members.  They will have responsibilities including medical paperwork, medical rescues, dispensing medication, and caretaking for those individuals needing to spend periods of time in the camp infirmary.

This individual will work in conjunction with the camp medical staff to provide medical injury coverage to Woodward Copper. They will be expected to assist as needed in emergency situations which may include removal of injured individuals from camp features; e.g., foam pit, trampoline, mountain obstacle. They will also be responsible for completing medical paperwork necessary for maintaining camp records (medication logs, triage logs, camper progress logs, etc.), especially in cases where an individual is seen by off-campus medical personnel (i.e., hospital).

This individual will be responsible for storing and dispensing medication to campers and staff as directed by medical forms. This individual will also be responsible for documenting each visit to the infirmary and maintaining permanent records as required by law.

They will be responsible for monitoring sick and/or injured campers and staff that necessitate staying in the infirmary for observation. He/she is expected to provide a quiet, professional, caring environment for those in medical need.

They will communicate campers’ medical needs to appropriate staff so arrangements can be made to alter training and/or recreation as needed. They are expected to assist campers in resuming activity as quickly and safely as possible.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Obtain and maintain health records on all camp staff, campers

Complete and store triage, medication, and progress note logs

Monitor health of staff

Monitor and evaluate camp procedures, conditions, and facilities, and suggest improvements to promote more healthful conditions

Maintain appropriate inventory of supplies, place orders or purchase replacements, including first aid kits in all activity areas of the camp

Provide “clinic” hours for camp participants to check in for medications, health issues or other issues the nurse can assist with.

Aid camp participants who are sick or sad during their stay.  This may require staying in the clinic with the participant until they are feeling better.

Establish and maintain appropriate routines including record keeping, accident/incident reports, managing and safeguarding medications, proper disposal of medical waste, utilizing approved standing orders, and routine inspections of camp areas

Make necessary appointments with community health care professionals

Lead staff training pertaining to camp health and safety, and universal precautions for infection control, specifically Blood borne Pathogen training

Identify a staff person to deputize to assist; and provide training for deputy health staff.

Participate in staff training.

Prepare a summary and evaluation of the camp season with suggestions for improvement, including inventories and camper reports of health issues

At the end of each camp week, make sure the nurse facilities are cleaned, equipment is inventoried and stored. Complete other duties as assigned to close camp

Learn and follow through with safety regulations and emergency procedures

Follow camp rules pertaining to the use of alcoholic beverages, smoking, and use of drugs

Submit all required paperwork on time

Must be available for overnight on call camper medical needs 6 nights/week.

Basic Requirements:

Must be able to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.

Due to the sensitive nature of this position, a criminal background check will be conducted after position is accepted.This background check will be done in accordance with standards enacted under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Preferred Experience and Special Skills:

3 years’ nursing experience as a registered nurse (RN).

Must have CPR and First Aid.

Ski area work experience a plus

Must have experience working with children

Summer Camp experience a plus

Should have experience with Camper aged groups, as well as older groups and adults
