By living the Amtrak values, focusing on our capabilities, and actively embracing and fostering diverse ideas, backgrounds, and perspectives, together we will honor our past and make Amtrak a company of the future.   **This Summer Intern role works onsite at our Kearny, NJ field office.**   POSITION SUMMARY:   The intern will engage in Engineering Department under the supervision of the Sr. Manager, Sr. Director, and other engineering professional staff as assigned, to organize, maintain and update the engineering asset database and, provide support for the development, implementation and monitoring of a very large portfolio of programs and projects of the Engineering Capital Program. Intern will interact with engineers and planners within and outside the Department and will be exposed to program and project development at the micro and macro levels; will work through challenges to achieve acceptable solutions through the application of engineering body of knowledge, suitable tools and best practices. The Engineering Intern will be analyzing data and creating and reviewing accurate and timely reports; will assist the Program Management Office (PMO) team with cost estimating, budgeting, project scheduling and monthly analyses & reporting.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Work under direction of Sr. Manager to organize and update information to support engineering project and program portfolio.  Ability to research and collect data.  Possess strong analytical skills . Ability to multi-task. Ability to identify challenges/barriers and make recommendations.  Effectively communicate findings to key stakeholders.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate/graduate degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management. Must have at least 3 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a senior status at minimum. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher Ability to work within an Engineering Project Management Office group that supports Engineering  Must be comfortable performing analysis and preparing reports summarizing the results of the analysis  Ability to work independently on specific projects Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access)  Some experience in developing presentations   PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: A concentration in Project Management, Business or Economics   The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour.
