POSITION SUMMARY: Have a passion for communications and a creative thinker? Interested in working with in Safety Promotions and or Emergency Management . As an Intern at Amtrak, you will learn the foundational principles of what it takes to create, implement, test, and improve a wide range of safety promotions & emergency management procedures. You will work under close supervision of the Director of Safety Promotions and in collaboration with all levels of stakeholders: from emergency management professionals and other business stakeholders to develop and implement policies and procedures relating to safety communications, emergency preparedness and management. Individuals in this role use project management knowledge and technical writing skills to support assigned projects, including: Help create Safety content Develop plans and procedures for major disruptions or emergencies. Validation of emergency management procedures Prepare policies and briefings on emergency preparedness subject matter Participate in fieldwork to execute emergency simulations or carry out protocol in crisis situations. Support project performance reporting Create and maintain project artifacts and ensure appropriate document and administrative controls ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Support the emergency management team with new projects and program maintenance. Create and maintain plan documentation (facility emergency plans, business continuity plans, etc.) Assist in development and review of after-actions Coordinate logistics, including shipping, calendars for emergency management events Please be advised that the Fall 2023 internship program will run from September 18th - April 26th (full academic year). MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution. Must be actively pursuing a graduate degree in Business Administration, Emergency Management, Communications or Political Science. Must have at least 4 years of academic undergraduate studies completed or a graduate status at minimum. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Relevant work experience (e.g., internships, school jobs) Microsoft Office experience (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project) Ability and interest to travel as requested (approx 25%) COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must have excellent oral and written communication skills The hourly range is $17.50 per hour - $35.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition, paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
