The Neuroscience Thematic Research Center (Neuroscience TRC) at Bristol Myers Squibb is a hub of innovation and scientific excellence dedicated to advancing the understanding and treatment of neurological disorders. Located in San Diego, the Neuroscience TRC brings together a multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers who are focused on discovering and developing novel therapeutic targets at the intersection of neural, glial, and immune biology. The San Diego Neuroscience TRC is highly committed to supporting local STEM initiatives that expose individuals from all backgrounds to careers in scientific disciplines through a Summer Internship Program for the summer of 2025. This is a great opportunity to gain exposure to diverse areas of the drug discovery process and have a hand in bringing novel therapeutics to patients with neurodegenerative diseases. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with at least 2 years of study towards a bachelor's degree from accredited Colleges and Universities to participate in a 10-week, full-time paid summer research program. Interns will have the opportunity to make meaningful contributions to drug discovery programs within the Neuroscience pipeline at BMS. The interns will work directly with a discovery program lead and a technical advisor to complete a defined project over the course of the 10 week program. Students will benefit from the state-of-the art laboratories at our research site and gain critical knowledge of the core techniques used for biological assays necessary early stage drug discovery pipeline. The intern will have the opportunity to gain hands on experience induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived neurons and microglia. Additionally, they will participate in departmental and project team meetings to gain valuable insights into the drug discovery and development process, and interact with individuals with a range of scientific and pharmaceutical leadership backgrounds. The internship will conclude with a formal poster session where the student will have the opportunity present their findings to the entire site. Core Program Aspects + Gain background knowledge of the assigned project by reading scientific literature + Work with program scientists to understand experimental design and execution + Learn and perform laboratory techniques required for project completion + Meet with scientific advisors on a regular basis to review progress + Maintain documentation of experiments in an electronic lab notebook + Analyze experimental data and present project findings at the conclusion of the program Qualifications & Experience + Candidates must be in enrolled in a bachelor's degree program majoring in Biology (e.g. Neuroscience,Immunology, Cell Biology), Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Engineering, or a related discipline + Must have completed 2 years of study towards a bachelor's degree by June 2025 + Candidates should have basic laboratory skills (lab course, academic lab, or industry lab) + Candidates should have strong communication skills (written and verbal), and the ability to work in a collaborative environment The starting compensation for this job is a range from $21.00/hour - $29.00/hour. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills and the geographic location where work is performed. Final individual compensation is decided commensurate with demonstrated experience and education level.
