Please note: This posting is for a 8-month Summer 2025 STUDENT placement with a start date of May 2025 and end-date of December 2025. In order to be eligible for this 8-month Student position, you must either:

Be returning back to school after the work term end-date of December 2025; orIf you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in August 2025 /December 2025), but you require the work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.

What is the opportunity?

The Next Best Action (NBA) Machine Learning team of RBC Personal Banking is looking for a passionate and innovative Data Science Intern to expand our data science product suite as we strive to maintain our position as the industry leader in deepening client relationships and engagement through the implementation of NBA Strategy. To achieve these goals, we leverage diverse data sources and a suite of domain specific machine learning models that power our client communications. Our ecosystem is a mix of big data pipelines, machine learning models, full stack (front-end and back-end) applications and microservices which we believe will provide the intern with an awesome opportunity to gain experience with end-to-end tech stack and data science practices in a corporate banking environment.

What will you do?

Augment existing suite of NBA machine learning products including propensity, recommender and GenAI models with enhanced functionality and more efficient pipelinesInteract with RBC internal partners and lines of businesses to gather requirements, help them frame their use cases and work with the senior ML team members to design and propose solutions.Contribute to the migration of existing and new models to a Cloud environmentAssist in researching new capabilities and technologies to drive innovation

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution (Undergrad completing 3rd year OR Master's program), with a focus on computer science, computer engineering, mathematics, statistics.Strong Programming skills in Python or similar programming languagesExperience or understanding of Relational Database (and SQL), and data visualization tools.Experience with data transformation, manipulation and diagnostic data analyticsStrong problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to details and a passion for data-driven decision making.Basic understanding of machine learning models and its applicationsA curiosity and passion for continuous learning and helping othersExcellent teamwork, communication and collaboration skills

Nice to have

Working knowledge in building statistical and algorithmic models including but not limited to supervised statistical learning, clustering, natural language processing, recommendation systems, times-series analysisKnowledge of public cloud (Azure, AWS, GCP, OpenShift or equivalent) platforms and development of applications in themExperience with big data processes (Spark) including batch processingExperience with common machine learning/deep learning libraries Tensorflow, PyTorch, scikit-learn, Huggingface etc.Experience in financial services industry with broad understanding of marketing, product management, sales, finance, pricing or risk management is an asset
