About Our Agribusiness Team
Agribusiness has opportunities in all aspects of business, including Sales, Underwriting, Product, Claims, Risk Management and Operations. The internship will expose the candidate to all facets of the organization with an emphasis in Commercial Ag Casualty Claims. Our team is responsible for investigating and resolving liability claims for farmers, ranchers, and commercial agribusinesses. These claims may include auto property damage, auto bodily injury, farm worker injuries, ATV/UTV incidents, general liability property damage, slip and fall cases, and agronomy-related claims. We are committed to delivering fair, timely, and professional claim resolutions while supporting our insureds and stakeholders.
A day in the life of an Agribusiness Commercial Casualty Claims Intern might include:
Assist in Initial Claim Intake and Documentation
Review and summarize first notice of loss reports.Enter claim data into the claims management system with accuracy.Support Liability Investigations
Conduct preliminary research on incidents using internal and external resources.Help gather and organize statements, photos, and other evidence.Participate in Claim Evaluation and Analysis
Assist in reviewing policy coverage and liability factors.Help prepare claim summaries for supervisor review.Engage in Communication with Stakeholders
Draft professional correspondence to insureds, claimants, and vendors.Attend and observe calls or meetings with agents, adjusters, or legal counsel.Contribute to Departmental Projects and Process Improvements
Support data analysis or reporting initiatives related to claim trends.Help document workflows or create training materials for future interns.Observe and Learn About Agribusiness Risk and Insurance Practices
Shadow experienced adjusters during field visits or virtual inspections.Participate in training sessions on agribusiness liability exposures.Assist with Subrogation and Recovery Efforts
Help identify potential third-party liability for recovery opportunities.Prepare documentation to support subrogation claims or reimbursement requests.Support Reserve and Payment Processes
Observe how reserves are set and adjusted based on claim developments.Assist in preparing payment requests and verifying supporting documentation.Participate in Compliance and Regulatory Review
Help ensure claim files meet internal audit and regulatory standards.Assist in organizing documentation for internal or external audits.Contribute to Intern Capstone or Final Presentation
Compile learnings and experiences into a final report or presentation.Share insights and recommendations for future internship improvements.About You
A successful Agribusiness Commercial Casualty Claims Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
Pursuit of undergraduate degree or extensive coursework in Insurance, Agribusiness, Risk Management, Agricultural Economics, business, legal, or other related field desired.Junior status is preferredInvolvement in student activities and/or some work experienceSkills/Competencies
