Employment Position Title Summer Canaras Camp Staff Associate - Saranac Lake Primary Responsibilities Join us this summer at Canaras as a staff associate where you will live on site along 2,000+ feet of waterfront property on beautiful Upper Saranac Lake in the historic Adirondack Park. As a Canaras staff member, you will be provided with on-site housing in one of our cabins, free meals cooked from scratch in our beautiful dining hall, access to water sports, hiking trails and more! You will spend your summer with fellow Laurentians and St Lawrence University Alumni while learning invaluable skills and experience while making lifelong memories. General Information: · Member of a small staff on site at Canaras from mid-May to mid-August · You are responsible for arranging transportation to and from Canaras · Work with the Camp Director, Camp Kitchen Manager and Caretaker · Responsible for opening and closing camp (details listed below) · Students are given 1 day off per week and are expected to live and eat at Canaras · You will be provided all training on site and become CPR / AED /First Aid Certified Primary Duties: -Cleaning: All 10 guest cabins are “turned over” every Saturday during the Alumni Season and turned over for conference guests in May & June as needed. This includes cleaning common areas in cabins, stripping bedding, collecting used towels, scrubbing bathrooms including toilets and showers, vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, washing windows, emptying garbage, recycling, sweeping off porches and steps and cleaning outdoor patio furniture. Making beds, restocking towels, restocking hand soap, toilet paper and tissue paper. Cleaning the common areas on the campgrounds such as the game room, boat house, library, all general/shared bathrooms, laundry room and any other assigned areas on the grounds. -Grounds Maintenance: Mowing lawns, raking paths and beaches, chopping and stacking firewood for each cabin and shared fireplaces. Clearing off porches, decks and other outdoor common areas. Cleaning path lamps, painting cabins and other duties to be assigned by the managers. -Kitchen Duties: Setting & clearing tables for 70 guests (adults and children), waiting on tables, monitoring children while they eat, running the dish machine, cleaning (sweeping, mopping) kitchen and dining hall. All students work in the dining hall for all 3 meals and kitchen duties may include some cooking and food preparation. -Recreational Duties: Monitoring “Kids Hour” every day, including organizing activities for children. Maintaining the game room, basketball & pickleball court and all equipment. Maintaining the canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, lifejackets and assisting guests with all recreational activities. -Water Sports: Clean and maintain boats daily, drive water ski boat and supervise water-skiing activities, teach guests a variety of water sports. Staff must be able to swim and must complete the NYS Boat Safety Course. -Public Relations: You are representing St. Lawrence University to Alumni and Guests. Informing them of current activities on campus, etc. Minimum Qualifications As a student worker position, applicants must be enrolled in a undergrad college/university program or recent college graduate. Exceptions to these qualifications may be made based on unique experience and proximity to camp location. Ability to live on-site and work for the full camp season (mid-May through mid August) Must be able to swim, staff will be required to take a swimming proficiency test prior to starting work.
