The Summer Housing Assistant (SHA) is a live-in staff member within The New School residence halls and an integral part of the Summer Housing Operations program at The New School. SHAs work to create a positive environment by fostering a sense of community within the residence halls. SHAs provide administrative support for The New School residence halls and work with staff to provide assistance to students in order to facilitate the best possible operation of the residence halls.
SHAs are expected to serve students and to uphold the standards of The New School and the Summer Housing Operations in the highest regard possible. It is essential that all staff members are viewed as credible, positive role models that abide by the university and the Summer Housing Operations policies and procedures, the SHA position description and contract, and the Housing License Agreement. SHAs are expected to behave in a manner that is professional and attuned to the goals and objectives of the Summer Housing Operations, both on and off-campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative Duties: Regularly check and respond to emails related to SHA responsibilities. Assist with residence hall operations, including but not limited to: Conduct 15 Weekly Office Hours between 9am – 5pm; Monday – Friday Attend & Support all Summer Check-In & Check-Out as scheduled Resolve lock out and access issues Submit Facilities or Maintenance Requests on behalf of non-TNS Residents Receive deliveries of orders to support summer housing operations Customer service support for guest complaints and inquiries
Resource Support:Inform residents about university resources and general information.
Crisis Management: Respond to behavioral and crisis situations, documenting incidents promptly. Mediate conflicts and report any discriminatory behavior. Serve in an on-call rotation with fellow student staff.
Compliance and Ethics: Adhere to university policies and maintain confidentiality regarding student concerns. Serve as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act, reporting crimes and violations.
WORK MODEOn Campus/Live-On: Employees hired for this position are expected to live within the residence hall they are assigned to for the duration of their employment.This position will work 15 – 20 hours per week from June 1, 2025 – August 11, 2025
COMPENSATION Single occupancy bedroom in the employees assigned residence hall. $17 per hour, paid bi-weekly. Minimum Qualifications: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be a full-time, matriculated New School student with at least sophomore standing. Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be in good standing with university offices. Experience with diverse populations and demonstrated crisis management skills. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience working with Google suite applications such as Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google forms.
