Summer Intern 2025 - Chaplain

Summer Internship 2025 – CHAPLAIN

(Monday, May 19th - Friday, August 8th)

The 12-week internship consists of the following:

1. Clinical Experience: The intern will complete supervised clinical hours at Hendrick Health and assist with providing spiritual care. The internship will offer firsthand experience in delivering spiritual and emotional support to patients facing various challenges and crises.

2. Supervision and Mentorship: The intern will work under the supervision of experienced chaplains who provide guidance, feedback, and mentorship throughout the internship. This may involve regular meetings to discuss cases, ethical considerations, literature, and professional development.

3. Personal and Professional Development: The intern will engage in ongoing personal and professional development. Included are self-reflection, verbatims, and feedback with their peers focused on topics such as cultural competency, ethics, grief and loss, and communication skills.

4. Integration of Theology and Practice: The intern will integrate theological understanding with their practical experience, applying religious and spiritual principles to their care in ways that are respectful and supportive of diverse beliefs and backgrounds.

5. Evaluation: After the internship, the intern will undergo an evaluation to assess their competence and readiness for healthcare chaplaincy. Successful completion of the internship will provide valuable ministry experience and exposure to professional chaplaincy. Completing the internship does not guarantee a position. – I’m open to wording this differently! Let me know what you think.
