Summer Intern - Data Analyst/Scientist Intern

The primary responsibilities of the intern include supporting exploratory AI and machine learning use cases, conducting data analysis, and contributing to data governance activities within the organization. This role is designed to provide hands-on experience with real-world datasets and help identify opportunities for advanced analytics within a life insurance context. + The role offers valuable exposure to enterprise data environments, modern cloud analytics platforms (e.g., Azure Databricks), and real-world applications of data science in the insurance industry. + Interns will have access to mentorship and development opportunities through regular check-ins, team meetings, and project reviews. + This internship does not guarantee full-time employment but offers strong experience for future roles in data analytics, data science, or actuarial analytics. The **Data Analyst/Scientist Intern** is expected to: + Assist in evaluating AI/ML models for specific business problems such as risk segmentation, lapse prediction, or sales behavior + Perform exploratory data analysis and data profiling to support hypothesis development and insights + Use tools such as Azure Databricks, Python, and SQL to support data transformation, modeling, and reporting + Contribute to data governance tasks such as metadata documentation, quality checks, and reference data reviews + Support ad hoc data requests and reporting needs using approved visualization platforms + Summarize relevant research or industry applications related to AI and insurance analytics + With guidance from the Director, may present findings to business stakeholders and leadership + Report to either the Canton, MA or Omaha, NE office based on assignment and follow that office’s onsite working policy + Successfully complete a standard background check as part of the onboarding process Qualifications **Education:** + Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, or a related field. **Experience:** + Prior internship or academic project experience in data analysis, machine learning, or data science preferred but not required. + Exposure to real-world datasets or participation in analytics competitions is a plus. **Knowledge Requirements:** + Strong foundational knowledge of statistics, machine learning, or data mining techniques + Proficiency in Python or R for data analysis and modeling + Experience with SQL for querying structured data + Familiarity with Jupyter notebooks or similar development environments + Ability to clean, transform, and visualize data + Knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., matplotlib, seaborn, Power BI, or Tableau) + Understanding of model evaluation techniques and performance metrics + Basic understanding of version control systems like Git + Curiosity and critical thinking in approaching open-ended problems + Ability to communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders + Interest in the insurance or financial services industry is a plus + Familiarity with cloud platforms or tools (e.g., Azure, Databricks) is a bonus5-15 bullet points **This internship opportunity has a start date of Monday 6/2/2025 - Monday 8/11/2025.** **Hybrid Work Model** At our Canton location, employees will be on site Monday - Thursday starting 5/1/23. At our Omaha location, employees will be on site 2 days per week.
