ResponsibilitiesProgram Overview
Youth Villages’ Residential Treatment programs serve children with emotional and behavioral problems. Our residential campuses provide the setting for an intensive treatment program that combines the unique balance of structure and freedom. This enables children and their families to identify, understand and cope with their individual needs and develop the skills necessary to succeed in less restrictive settings. We have three different types of facilities—Intensive Residential Centers, Open Campuses, and Group Homes. Located in Tennessee and Georgia, all of these facilities utilize the Re-Education of Emotionally Disturbed Children therapy model (Re-Ed).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for all aspects of swimming pool including safety of residents and up keep of facilities.
Provides structured water classes (swimming lessons, games) for all residents.
Maintains certifications and trainings to remain compliant (CPR, CPI, Cert Lifeguard Training)
Provides coverage for all swimmers.
Keeps pool clean, vacuumed, chemicals accurate, and makes necessary repairs.
Assesses new residents for swimming levels.
Teaches lifesaving techniques to upper level swimmers.
Coordinates pool schedule for weekdays and weekends with cottage staff.
May assist with other water sports (ie: canoing) if applicable to campus.
Additional Information
Our pools will be open April through October. We will we can consider candidates who are able to consider the entire period of time or partial days/hours. Our lifeguards can work up to 40 hours maximum.
April through Memorial Day: Tuesday 8:30am-2:30pm, Wednesday 1:30-4pm, Friday 8:30am-2pm, Saturday 12-5pm, Sunday 12-4pmMemorial Day through Labor Day: Monday - Friday 2:30-7pm, Saturday and Sunday 8:30am-4pmLabor Day to end of October: Tuesday 8:30am-2:30pm, Wednesday 1:30-4pm, Friday 8:30am-2pm, Saturday 12-5pm, Sunday 12-4pmSalary
$20 / hours
QualificationsHigh School Diploma
CPR Certified
Lifeguard Certified OR willing to become certified (see additional details below)
Experience working with at-risk youth is preferred
A swim test is required for applicants who are not or have never been certified as lifeguards. Employment is contingent upon passing prerequisite swim test:
Swim 300 yards continuously using front crawl or breaststrokeTread water for 2 minutes using only legsComplete a timed event within 1 minute 40 seconds: start in water and swim 20 yards, surface dive to a depth of 9ft to retrieve a 10lb object. Return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to the start keeping both hands on the object and keeping the face at or near the surface to be able to breath. Once at the start exit the water without using a ladder.
