Summer Program Coordinator, Upward Bound
Location: Vestal, NY Category: Professional & Support Staff Posted On: Tue Jan 21 2025 Job Description: The Summer Program Coordinator of Upward Bound is responsible for assisting with the planning and implementation of the Upward Bound Summer Program. This position supports the overall mission to retain and prepare first-generation, low-income high school students participating in the Upward Bound Program for college enrollment. Primary responsibilities: Assist in the planning and coordination, implementation, and evaluation of academic, social, career exploration, cultural, and recreational programs for students during the residential summer program. This includes but is not limited to: + Supervision/Staffing + Training and supervision of Resident Counselors + Creating and maintaining schedules for Resident Counselors and Tutors + Management of operations of summer program housing + Oversight of annual summer activities: clubs, fashion show, talent show, end of summer banquet + Assist Academic Counselors in registering participants in summer classes Dates/Hours: + Program dates: May 1 - August 15 + Hours Prior to Summer Program - Monday- Friday 8:30-5pm + Hours During Summer Program Sunday - 5:30pm-9pm, Monday-Thursday 12:30pm-9pm + Hours may vary or be extended during the end of the year trip or as needed during activities Job Requirements: Requirements: + Current Resident Director, Graduate student; preference given to students enrolled in Higher Education and Student Affairs; Sociology, Psychology, Social Work or similar disciplines. + Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. + Familiarity with college advising and connecting students to campus resources. + Self-starter who can work independently and manage multiple projects. + Demonstrated experience collaborating and communicating effectively with varied constituents. + Ability to work evening and weekend hours. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience working with access and opportunity programs that serve underrepresented students such as income eligible or first-generation college students. + Leadership experience within summer camps, residential programs, summer programs, etc. + Experience with staff supervision and evaluation Additional Information: Salary: $808 per week, paid bi-weekly.
