Overview
Location: Providence Citadel (Providence, RI)
Hours Per Week: 5
Schedule: Sunday, 1:00 pm – 6:00 pm
Scope of Position: Prepare and serve meals, maintain accurate records and files, order/purchase food and other items, inventory and track items delivered, store items, keep kitchen and storage areas clean and stocked, respond to concerns, attend workshops and meetings, plan and implement menus, and ensure the kitchen complies with various regulations .
Responsibilities
+ Assist with preparing and serving the community meals as scheduled according to the menu.
+ Ensure that all food is handled and stored according to the rules and regulations of the Health Department.
+ Inventory all food and related items to ensure adequate food and supplies are available; discard expired foods and products.
+ Notify the supervisor of items that need to be purchased.
+ Store all food items neatly upon delivery in the kitchen or storerooms, following proper food storage guidelines.
+ Wash, sanitize, dry, and put away all items (pots, pans, utensils, slicer, etc.) used to prepare and serve meals.
+ Sanitize all kitchen and dining surfaces, sweep and mop floors, clean and stock bathrooms, and remove trash from the building.
+ Secure the kitchen and dining area upon the conclusion of each meal service, if necessary.
+ Prepare the monthly menu with the supervisor.
+ Promptly respond to concerns related to the kitchen and work directly with the supervisor on all issues.
+ Attend workshops, meetings, and training sessions as needed to stay informed about regulations and changes that affect the kitchen.
+ Work holidays when scheduled and available.
Qualifications
+ A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
+ Two years of cooking experience is highly preferred.
+ QFO (qualified food operator)/ServeSafe certification required or willing to obtain upon hiring.
+ Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the work environment.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with other personnel, service providers, volunteers, etc.
+ Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and under pressure.
+ Able to read and follow standardized recipes and instructions.
+ Experience working with the population served preferred; sensitivity to cultural and socioeconomic characteristics of the population served.
+ Fluency in the English language is required; Spanish-speaking ability is helpful.
+ Must be able to adhere to the work schedule and work an occasional evening, weekend, or holiday.
+ Must be empathetic and caring.
+ Must complete KeepSAfe and other training requirements upon hire.
+ Organized, able to multitask, and strong communication skills.
+ Strong knowledge of proper food handling is preferred.
+ A valid driver’s license is preferred.
