JOB TITLE: Superintendent - Construction (HVAC)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure that the allocated work scopes related to Mechanical / HVAC, Piping, Painting, Insulation, Refractory and Fireproofing in the project are constructed to international standards and in line with agreed budget, schedule, and construction sequence.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The Superintendent – Mechanical will work with the Subcontractors supervision, directing activities to project priorities, ensuring that required support is available, and monitoring labour and equipment levels for efficiency.
General:
Works to a 90-day look ahead schedule and provides leadership and guidance to site-based construction supervision (multi-discipline) and construction contractors Assist subcontractor in finding best method to execute the works. Monitor daily construction details and daily progress in the area (PPC). Understands Petrofac Scope of Work, and the detail scopes for each subcontractor, together with an appreciation of the contract type, e.g. reimbursable, unit rates etc. On reimbursable contracts the Construction Superintendent is responsible to verify that all subcontractor personnel and equipment are being used efficiently and sign off on daily timesheets verifying this. Construction Superintendent must be contractually aware, identifying changes in project scope and formally notifying the Subcontracts Manager before implementation. Supports Construction Manager / Engineer in finalizing technical decisions. Takes ownership of safety; reviews Subcontractor HSSE plans and instigating required changes. Oversee/conduct toolbox talk before commencement of work, briefing about the risks involved and the mitigation measures to be taken. Inspect the jobsite daily to confirm that housekeeping standards are met and takes immediate action if standards are not being met. Encourage the subcontractor and subordinates to report all near misses, unsafe acts etc. Verify ITP’s and QCP’s are in place before commencement of work and responsible to ensure that the work correctly executed the first time. Construction Superintendent must understand project quality requirements. Construction Superintendent shall monitor the Subcontractors trade personnel to identify skill shortages and training requirements
· Ensure Quality Control inspection on material received and report any damaged/missing material.
· Ensure adequate storage & preservation of equipment & bulks before and after installation.
· Attend pre-walkdowns/walkdowns for MC verifying the work scope is completed as per drawings to reduce the punch list.
· Resolve Technical Queries (TQs) Non-Compliance Reports (NCR) that are issued to subcontractor.
· Installation of equipment to high standard ensuring the job task is performed right first time following QinC Quality in Construction approach. Actively participate in Quality control inspection of mechanical equipment, packages, piping, and painting works in line with approved ITP’s.
· Co-ordinate with Field engineering to obtain Client approvals related to Construction
· Knowledgeable in all facets of construction/field engineering methods and techniques. Review and approves all Construction Method statements submitted by Subcontractor. Ensuring industry best practices are used and new applicable standards are implemented.
· Attend subcontract/cost awareness sessions and understand the Responsibility matrices, BOQ & preambles of subcontract. Review Responsibility Matrix and ensure subcontractor is complying within the contract. Review any work scope that has been missed within the subcontract with subcontractor and notify management.
· Leads the four-week schedule review meetings (weekly) and reviews the weekly work plans to support the overall schedule and commodity curves. Submit daily and weekly reports that identify work in progress and completed. To assist management, the Superintendent will identify all work that is falling behind schedule, propose remedial action and re-forecast completion dates.
· Understands the systems turnover plan/sequence and support the discipline subcontractors to construct to that sequence.
· Manage vendors to ensure they are at site for a minimum period, plan mobilisation to coordinate with construction installation. Ensure to meet the requirements and all pre-requisites before mobilizing vendor onsite. Accountable to Sign-off vendor timesheets and maintain vendor mobilization tracker identifying vendor costs and forecasts to CM / SM
· Share the technical knowledge with subcontractors & Petrofac staff. Training and development of Nationals, which involves shadowing, mentoring or on the job training for certain designated positions and supervisor junior engineers while job training is on-going.
· Clear roles and responsibilities to be defined for subordinates
· Provides clear and honest feedback to construction supervision on their performance and provides coaching and mentoring to enhance their skills
· Assist in Closing all punches and assist in commissioning plan.
· Coordinate closely with client and ensure all concerns are tackled.
· Ensure quantity reporting is establish and reported accurately.
· Input site construction feedback in Construction Observation Form
· Verify that personnel engaged in critical activities (lifting, scaffolding, piping and electrical) have passed the VoC or Third Party assessment.
· Provide training onsite if nominated by CM.
· Trained in lifting and scaffolding supervision (if required).
Discipline Specific Duties - HVAC:
Review and approve procedures and method statements of all HVAC fabrication, painting, installation, erection and testing processes during construction. Verify installation in line with manufacturers installation procedures and project requirements. Review the project schedules to confirm work sequences, installation progress requirements and completion milestone plans. Also, identify other discipline commodities that must be installed to support the HVAC installation program Develop the leak test program and ensure the leak test limits and required materials are included on the design drawings when issued IFC, if required. Prepare a detailed HVAC plan for each building based on material delivery dates and Subcontractor resource mobilization. Ensure availability of HVAC components such as Air Handling Unit, other skid mounted units, piping, ducts and supports, dampers, louvers, and insulation Ensure that necessary certification for materials are available for HVAC components. Review HVAC IFC documents and resolve discrepancies, raise technical queries for clarifications on IFC deliverables in coordination with field engineering team Ensure P&ID are strictly followed by Subcontractor.The above is an outline of key duties and accountabilities, rather than an exclusive or exhaustive list of responsibilities. Knowledge & Qualifications:
15+ Mechanical and Piping site experience in direct hire construction with an international oil & gas EPC company and with subcontractors
15+ HVAC site experience in direct hire construction with an international oil & gas EPC company and with subcontractors
Preference will be given to candidates who meet the following criteria:
Experience working in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS/FSU), Middle East, and/or North Africa Prior experience working with a diverse international workforce Additional Information
