Job Summary:
The Construction Supervisor is responsible for all construction activities associated with large gas distribution and transmission projects, or for regional construction of gas distribution mains and services. The Supervisor leads a team made up of Project Coordinators, Inspectors, Specialists, contractors, 2nd-party service providers, and other construction staff that execute the construction of gas utility infrastructure, while delivering on financial and operating objectives. This person drives quality and safety expectations and ensures that those standards are met on projects or within a functional or regional area.
Functional Expertise:
Oversees construction of underground gas utility infrastructure for residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Responsible for capital construction activities on projects that total $10MM-$50MM annually, performed by an average of 6-18 construction crews. Leads and assigns inspector resources for construction oversight for safety, quality, and productivity metrics within a functional or regional area. Reviews and approves highly complex statements of work, work orders, change orders, and invoices in accordance with authorization approval policies. Monitors cost per unit variances within a functional or regional realm of responsibility and identifies exceptions/variances and appropriate corrective actions Responds to emergency situations (where applicable) in a specific region during after-hours (duty supervisor)Business Acumen:
Provides leadership, vision, and direction for Project Coordinators, Construction Inspectors, and Construction Field Specialists on a project or in a regional area of responsibility. Analyzes costs and benefits for alternative construction policies and opportunities to maximize cost efficiencies. Monitors monthly and annual capital and operating expense budgets and implements cost control within a functional and/or geographical area.Engagement:
Manages staff selection, development, and retention. Responsible for enhancing performance of construction staff through training, motivation and performance coaching. Has an understanding of pipeline contracts to effectively leverage and negotiate the application of contractual items with external service providers Leads dialogue for elevated/high visibility issue customers, municipalities and other governmental agencies throughout the project as required (such as state DOTs, Counties, etc) Instills corporate values and personal responsibility into construction staff Influences external contractor leaders who represent the company by modeling corporate values.Driving Results:

4+ years of experience in industrial or utility construction, engineering, or operations with related degree 6+ years of experience with no degreePreferred:
4+ years of gas utility construction experience. Demonstrated success in supporting multiple large projects or construction operations with an annual value of $10MM-$50MM; demonstrated success in leading small projects up to $5MM Front line leadership experience including recruiting, hiring, training, and performance management. Company construction experience; gas utility construction experience Background in steel piping installation, inspection, or oversight Contract management and administration experience.Applicant may possess a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Knowledge of construction management, contract administration, and construction safety Basic CPM scheduling Intermediate MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, GIS, and internal financial and/or work management applications Advanced interpretation of design drawings, specifications, and flow interruption plans • Effective written and verbal communication with supervision, contractors, inspectors, public, management, and company leadership Intermediate knowledge of gas industry and OSHA regulations and their impact on construction processes Intermediate knowledge of piping construction techniques, welding, NDE, excavation, compaction, coating, inspection, pressure testing, pigging/cleaning; basic knowledge of tapping/stopping, purging, operating routines / isolation procedures / flow interruption plansWorking Conditions/Physical Requirements:
This is a field-based position and work location is variable based on the location of the project. The Construction Supervisor may be required to be on the job site during all construction hours or otherwise ensure that the site is staffed by direct reports during all construction hours. Long workdays and weekend work may be required. Periods of night shift work may be required. Standing and/or walking construction sites for long periods of time may be required. Lifting objects up to 50lbs may be required. Driving a Company vehicle for long trips or commutes may be required. Overnight travel may be required up to 25% of the time. Working in all types of weather conditions may be required. Climbing in and out of excavations, kneeling, bending, and climbing ladders to inspect pipeline construction activity may be required. Walking on changing elevation and/or uneven surfaces may be required. Being on-call while not on duty may be required.Other Details:
