Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance

The Supervisor, Fleet Maintenance is responsible for leading a team of mechanics responsible for ensuring all fleet vehicles and equipment are repaired and maintained in a safe, reliable, economical, and serviceable manner. This role is focused on safety and the direct oversight of repair and maintenance activities for fleet vehicles and equipment, ensuring optimal usage and availability in support of operational, construction, and administrative activities company-wide. 

 

Responsibilities

Monitor and oversee all fleet vehicle and equipment corrective and preventative maintenance processes and procedures to ensure activities are performed in accordance with company policies, contractual agreements, compliance, and operating requirements. Review and approve payroll and distribution documents, work orders, vehicle repair data entries, and vendor invoices for accuracy. Plan, organize, prioritize, assign, and authorize the daily workload of fleet preventative and corrective maintenance, emission testing, registration, transportation, permitting, and safety inspection activities to ensure completion in a safe, reliable, timely, and cost-effective manner. Supervise, develop, and provide performance feedback to staff to ensure maximum productivity and growth, and compliance with company policies. Collaborate with business units and departments to ensure transparency on fleet maintenance, transportation, fleet training, and spare equipment-related activities. Foster strong working relationships with other departments to ensure seamless coordination and communication regarding fleet maintenance and operational needs. Regularly communicate with department heads to provide updates on fleet status, maintenance schedules, and any potential issues that may affect operations. Promote a culture of cooperation and teamwork by encouraging open dialogue and feedback from all departments, ensuring that fleet maintenance activities align with the overall goals and objectives of the company.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS: 

 

Education, Certifications/Licenses: 

Required:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Preferred:

BB/BA/BS with automotive technology courses or 3-5 years of experience in supervising covered employees preferred.  Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is not required but a plus. 

 

Related Work Experience:

 Required:

3-5 years of fleet repair and maintenance experience required Demonstrated ability to provide leadership

 

Specific Skills and Knowledge: 

Required:

Mechanical and technical knowledge of light and heavy-duty utility-fleet equipment, including trailers and excavation equipment  Understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. Understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines. Understanding of IBEW Local 19 agreement  Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Working knowledge of Enterprise Asset Management software (EAM) preferred. Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate with all levels to achieve organizational success. Ability to manage change as the business dictates.
