GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Under the general supervision of the Radiologist and the Imaging Services Director performs the duties of supervising diagnostic radiology techs (X-Ray and CT). The Supervisor plans, directs, and coordinates the clinical support activities of the X-Ray and CT sections. Performs a variety of radiologic routines and related duties within the limits of their scope of practice. This position is a working supervisor.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
1. Plans and directs personnel within the department; and ensures staff are actively engaged in work on a consistent basis.
2. Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and onboarding processes for new hires.
3. Ensures all department competencies and staff training are completed within required timelines.
4. Enters and completes timekeeping attendance on a timely basis.
5. Schedules employees on a computerized scheduling system maintaining adequate staffing for the department.
6. Develops and recommends policies and procedures related to clinical practice.
7. Investigates and resolves patient and staff complaints within the unit.
8. Monitors activities for quality of procedures and performance of staff, making sure staff are using ALARA.
9. Assists in monitoring audits to ensure Quality Assurance within the department.
10. Maintains a clean and safe environment.
11. Orders supplies and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies within the department.
12. Maintains records of valid licensure and certifications of clinical staff.
13. Develops and implements quality assessment plans in compliance with all regulatory agencies (TJC, ACR, OSHA).
14. Completes any statistical reporting as assigned.
15. Positions and handles patients to assure that patient is in optimal position for radiograph as directed by physician order.
16. Prepares and maintains routine department records and special reports.
17. Assists in budget preparation for the department.
18. Properly maintains equipment records for inspections such as physicist testing, PM’s and service reports.
19. Performs general, portable, fluoroscopic and operating room radiographic procedures when needed.
20. Identifies Age Specific needs of patient and complies with same.
21. Ensures department equipment is maintained and in good working condition.
22. Schedules and adds on procedures with open communications to staff involved including proper authorizations.
23. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
1. Demonstrates behaviors of service excellence consistent with hospital-wide unit-specific standards.
2. Completes all annual hospital-wide mandatory training within the defined timeframes (i.e. safety, annual in-services)
3. Demonstrates competence in specified computer applications (EMR, PACS, Microsoft Teams, Aspen Lung, Office).
4. Maintains cooperative, pleasant communication with all individuals.
5. Assists in the development of and participates in Performance Improvement activities.
6. Facilitates Imaging Services meetings and projects to develop strategies for quality improvement.
7. Tracks staffing to ensure economical utilization of supplies, time and resources.
8. Makes and oversees staff assignments and demonstrates clear expectations of accountability.
9. Completes all personnel supervisory responsibilities in a timely manner, including but not limited to evaluations, licensing/certification reports, trainings, and timekeeping review.
10. Develops and maintains positive working relationships with all staff and physicians throughout the organization.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
1. Graduation from an accredited school of radiologic technology, accredited ultrasound school, or accredited nursing program.
2. Current certification by the ARRT, ARDMS, or RN license recognized by the State of Iowa Board of Nursing.
3. If not currently holding ARRT certification, must obtain a limited x-ray technologist license within two years of hire.
4. Valid Iowa permit to practice if necessary to practice.
5. At least one year of leadership experience.
6. At least three years of experience as a technologist or imaging nurse in a hospital setting.
7. Consistently demonstrates a team approach to care.
8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
9. Experience with Microsoft Office, PACS, and EMR programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. Two-plus years supervisory experience.
2. Bachelor’s or master’s degree in related healthcare or business management field.
3. Additional Certifications such as CT, MRI, NM, PET, Bone Density, Ultrasound, IR or Mammography
4. Bilingual.
