Shift: Monday - Friday & covering weekends and off shifts as needed. Day shift, but with flexing hours to connect with midnights and PM shift.

Loyola Medicine, treating the whole person with compassion—to "also treat the human spirit."   The Laboratory Department seeks a Supervisor, Laboratory Testing Operations to manage staff resources to meet the needs of the laboratory and expected lab result turn-around-times, which includes hiring qualified employees to fill open positions.

This position is located at MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn, IL.

What you will do:

Supervise laboratory operations: Oversee the overall functioning of the laboratory, including managing workflow, scheduling staff, and ensuring timely completion of tests and procedures.Ensure compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable laboratory regulations, standards, and safety protocols, including CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) and CAP (College of American Pathologists) guidelines.Quality control and assurance: Implement quality control measures to maintain the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. Conduct regular audits and proficiency testing and address any issues or discrepancies.Staff management: Recruit, train, and supervise laboratory personnel, including medical technologists, technicians, and assistants. Provide ongoing performance feedback, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.Laboratory equipment and supplies: Manage inventory of laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies. Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accurate and reliable test results.Data analysis and reporting: Review and analyze laboratory data, interpret results, and prepare reports for healthcare providers and stakeholders. Provide accurate and timely information to support patient care decisions.Collaboration: Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as pathologists, physicians, and nurses, to ensure effective communication and coordination of laboratory services in patient care processes.Continuous improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement, operational efficiency, and cost control. Implement new technologies, methodologies, and best practices to enhance laboratory performance.Risk management: Identify and mitigate potential risks and hazards in the laboratory. Develop and implement safety protocols and emergency procedures to protect staff and patients.

What's required:

Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Chemical, Physical or Biological Science is required.3-5 years of experience in high complexity testing in hematologyExtensive knowledge about computers and use of various software programsIn-depth knowledge of standard operating procedures and testing techniquesRequires knowledge of state and federal regulations

Minimum Experience:

Required: Greater than 2 years of laboratory training or experience in the designated specialty or subspecialty of responsibilityPreferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience in the designated specialty

Preferred:

Certification as Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or laboratory discipline specific or specialty certificate (ASCP or AMT or other approved certifying agency)Other: Must meet CLIA88 qualifications for technical consultant (moderate complexity) and general supervisor (high complexity) for the designated testing specialty.
