Duties include handling information and reference inquiries in person, over the phone, and through chat. Additionally, this position helps maintain the library productivity environment by supporting service inquiries and referral services for ProtoSpace, the Knowledge Commons, and specialty reference. Because of the mix of duties and responsibilities in this position, we are seeking applicants interested in learning new skills, raising the level of service, and working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. This position is required to work on campus full-time. Telecommuting will only be authorized for occasional/exceptional circumstances. We are interested in identifying and interviewing candidates with experience and expertise that will contribute to advancing our mission to provide everyone with access to information resources and educational opportunities. **Responsibilities** **Lead patron service at all service desks during night hours Sunday through Thursday:** Oversees the department’s commitment to quality customer service and promotes the careful and professional arbitration of user conflicts while working at service points approximately 32 hours per week. + Leads the part-time staff. + Ensures proper training and professional development of part-time staff. + Assists in creating and modifying department schedules to ensure proper coverage of all service desks at night. + Assists in tracking, accumulating, and reporting relevant department statistics as assigned. + Provides reference, information, and circulation assistance at all library service desks: + Provides information and referral services including connecting patrons with online tools and how-to guides. + Provides information by searching or recommending print or electronic sources or titles, placing material requests, searching shelves, or referring to other libraries or community sources. + Instruct patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources to access information, and in using computers and equipment. + Assists with on-demand circulation and cashier transactions. + Fulfills Automated Retrieval Center ( ARC ) requests after 6 pm Monday – Thursday and on Sundays. **Coordinate technology services:** + Helps manage the technology equipment fulfillment program. + Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment and/or completes reports to the e-ticket system. + Develops and follows the cleaning and maintenance schedules of equipment in the Knowledge Commons and ProtoSpace. **Contributes to the safety and protection of library patrons, employees, and collections:** + Helps maintain a safe and secure environment by conducting facility rounds, monitoring activities to ensure compliance with library policies, assessing and reporting suspicious activities to the proper campus agencies, and acting as first responders in emergencies, including library or campus evacuations. + When the library serves as an evacuation site for large-scale campus and stadium events, the supervisor assists in sheltering evacuees inside the library under the direction of Campus Emergency Management. Assists with staff assignments and schedule changes for evacuation preparation as part of the University’s Incident Action Plan. + Responds to building emergencies in the library and works directly with the desks on resolution. + Clears and Secures the facility at close. **Minimum Qualifications** Six years related experience including one year supervisory experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required; basic knowledge of library science techniques and principles in order to provide oversight to assigned area required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description. **Preferences** Experience with customer service and working in a team environment, preferably with technology and in an academic environment. Experience with Windows and Mac operating systems, software applications, and troubleshooting technical issues. Approachable with excellent communication skills to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and other library users. Good organization skills and an interest in learning new systems.
