Supervisor, Rare Disease Translational Center
The Jackson Laboratory is seeking a Supervisor for our Animal Care Technologist Team to join the Rare Disease Translational Center (RDTC) team in Bar Harbor, Maine!
The Animal Care Technologist supports RDTC operations by executing all tasks and activities under moderate supervision and according to SOPs, protocols, and other working directives. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing all daily operations, schedule support, training and performance management of staff. Additional responsibilities include management of internal & external shipments, watching over the daily CLAM emails to ensure that we stay in compliance, oversight of Staff Request Forms, etc. Critical elements of successful performance include effective leadership, training and development of assigned staff. The Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all RDTC technologists are compliant with IACUC regulations, room rules and animal welfare.

The JAX RDTC leverages JAX’s unique research environment and resources to translate biological discovery into clinical action We work directly with foundations and their associated teams of basic science and clinical researchers to understand the molecular underpinnings of disease symptoms, identify pathways that can be targeted therapeutically, and assess the safety and efficacy of candidate drugs and therapies in biologically accurate mouse models of disease. This position is an exciting opportunity to work directly with the RDTC in supporting this mission.
Responsibilities
Oversees daily operations, which includes supervising a team of direct reports, assessing work quality and employee training and ensuring personnel development meets the standards of the service. They help set expectations and monitor standards within the lab and ensures a safe work environment is maintained by following safety policies/practices.Staff management and development: coaches, evaluates, and develops all technologists. Key responsibilities include supporting programmatic ground rules, guidelines, and goals, and motivating direct reports to achieve high levels of performance.Supports the establishment and compliance of robust quality procedures that ensure the integrity of service and operations.Administrative duties include supporting the drafting and updating SOPs for day-to-day lab operations, key maintenance and safety issues, and policies to handle emergencies.Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required, completion of a Bachelors degree in a life science field strongly preferred.Supervisory experience in a research-based setting such as an academic lab or CRO with demonstrated ability to supervise and lead a team of technical staff preferred.A strong candidate possesses in-depth knowledge and familiarity with all operating requirements and procedures of the work area sufficient to oversee and train personnel.Demonstrated ability to meet quality standards and drive the implementation for process improvements.Interpersonal relationship skills sufficient to allow the incumbent to effectively lead others, develop consensus among members of multifunctional teams holding disparate opinions and work effectively with individuals and groups made up of people representing a diversity of technical skills and degrees of sophistication.Excellent written and verbal skills sufficient to produce professional-level correspondence and prepare clear and comprehensive business reporting, recommendations, and proposals.Pay Range: $68,344 - $109,350, salary is determined by experience.
