Supervisor, Safety

Position Summary: 

Under the general direction of a manager, the Supervisor, Safety is responsible for directly overseeing the work of a team of individuals in a warehouse facility that drive safety and environmental compliance as well as employee engagement in support of establishing a culture of safety and adheres to company policies and SOPs. 

 

The Supervisor, Safety will work alongside other members of the Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) team to help in preventing work injury and supporting production by maintaining a safe work environment through limiting exposure to chemicals, physical, biological, weather-controlled conditions, and ergonomic risks to personnel. The Supervisor will help in overseeing and coordinating the Environmental Health & Safety program of the facility, while supervising and assessing hazardous risk personnel work in daily.

 

Primary Accountabilities:

Operational (70%)

Execute on and maintain company wide EHS initiatives including, but not limited to assigned facility compliance activities. Provide effective solutions to current, and anticipate, the changing business needs to build and sustain a world-class safety culture.

Actively engage associates of all levels within the assigned facility and perform routine audits and assessments that all help prevent incidents from occurring 

Provide local EHS leadership by partnering with operational business functions to enable efficient knowledge transfer of key skills to managers, supervisors and employees

Thoroughly investigate all incidents including near misses and develop appropriate action plans to mitigate future incidents, and communicate action plans with local operations team members 

Responsible and accountable for the preparation, submission, and documentation of all regulatory environmental and safety reporting requirements

Administers the facility’s worker compensation injury reports, personal liability claims, and facility inspections

Supports and/or facilitates training events for employees to ensure compliance with safety policies and regulations, including new employee orientation, vehicle safety, and equipment operation. Evaluate training effectiveness and make recommendations for improvements.

Leadership (30%)

Conducts regular scheduled staff meetings with associates

Effectively communicate goals, expectations, areas for improvement, and successes to associates

Contribute to employee development by providing training, coaching, and promotional opportunities

Administer corrective action to employees in conjunction with Manager and Human Resources 

 

Required Qualifications:

Associate Degree in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Finance or related field

1-2 years of safety program experience, preferably in a lead or supervisor role in a fulfillment, distribution, or manufacturing environment; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to complete the major responsibilities/essential functions of the position

Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills are advantageous in the role

Working knowledge of computers and programs specific to operations and operations reporting
including MS Office (Excel, MS Word)

Knowledge of warehouse safety and security practices

Physically able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment

Ability to operate and troubleshoot department equipment, i.e. material handling equipment;
such as the forklift and pallet jack

Ability to package, label, load/unload Hazardous Materials and Hazardous Waste, sign
Hazardous Waste manifests, and serve the facility as an Emergency Coordinator

 Ability to perform the functions of a hazardous waste generator, including but not limited to, identification, sorting, packaging, segregating, labeling hazardous waste generated from daily operational activities 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

OSHA experience on a state or federal level preferred.

Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) are preferred.
