National Grid is hiring a Supervisor, Substation Worker for our Electric Division in Worcester, MA. This is an in-office and in the field position

Job Purpose

To supervise Substation operations, maintenance, and construction teams within our electric utility.

Key Accountabilities

 

Ensure timely review of construction designs, plans, construction schedules and other requirements to meet business plan goals, and construction schedules required to meet the customer need dates. Interfaces externally with major Industrial and Commercial customers as well as relevant external stakeholders. Supervises direct reports in their response to system outages and contingencies. Motivates, counsels, coaches, and develops direct reports and others; establish clearly defined goals and standards of divisional employee performance. Ensure proper administration of the labor agreement and all safety and human resource policies and procedures. Develop and maintain effective communications with Union Leadership and all department employees.

 

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required Effective planning, leadership, communication, and supervisory skills.  Assist with the personal development, coaching and mentoring of junior team members.  Ability to work off-hours and on call rotations. This includes requiring travel outside the division for emergency assignments.   Qualifications Bachelor's degree preferred with specialized training in basic electricity and electric theory, national application standards and job-related experience -OR- knowledge equivalent to that acquired through completion of a two year technical school plus additional specialized training with 4 years qualifying experience. Technically proficient within subject matter with some experience leading a team involved in operations and maintenance. Ability to gain a working knowledge of tools and systems within designated area. Knowledge of Substation electrical equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, instrument transformers, metering equipment, voltage regulation and power quality and applying OSHA standards. High voltage electrical safety rules, SMPs, EOPs, and industry best practices and work methods. Must qualify for Authorized Persons List to coordinate and initiate switching activities within and across various operations teams. Ability to accurately interpret Substation one lines, specification sheets, prints, schematics, diagrams and instructions information to construct, maintain and troubleshoot effectively. Possess valid driver's license with safe driving record. Must qualify for National Grid's Clearance and Controls Authorized persons list. Knowledge of all applicable  EOPs related to underground or overhead line construction including OSHA 1910.269

Salary: $101,000 - 119,000

This position has a career path which provides for advancement opportunities within and across bands as you develop and evolve in the position; gaining experience, expertise and acquiring and applying technical skills. Internal candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience. 

 

Please be advised that due to the nature of this position, incumbents are subject to federal Drug & Alcohol safety regulations governing US Department of Transportation ("DOT") covered positions, including the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Pipeline Hazardous Material Safety Administration (PHMSA). As such, the Company’s testing programs and policies regarding the use of federally prohibited drugs or alcohol, for recreational or medical purposes, will remain in effect for these safety-sensitive, DOT covered positions.
