Responsibilities

Responsible for the management and development of the animal care technicians to ensure they are providing quality animal care for all research animals. Ensures that all animal care technicians are properly trained in all aspects of their position. Assumes overall responsibility among the animal care technicians for the weekly routine. Develops, tests and revises Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in accordance with the Quality Management System. Assesses the need for capital equipment/improvements, supplies/services, and takes appropriate action within budgetary parameters. Assists in the development of the MCR Quality metrics each quarter and assists with yearly QMS plans. Works directly with the principal Investigators to meet DCM demands for space and animal moves. Works directly with Safety, Occupational Health, Waste Management, Facilities, Engineering and Quality Offices as well as outside vendors, maintains all animal, facility, and census records. Performs additional job-related functions as detailed by the staff veterinarians and operations manager.

Qualifications

Associate Degree and 4 years of lab animal experience required, OR Bachelor’s degree + 2 years of lab animal experience Preference for degree in animal science 

Additional Qualifications

Demonstration of successful leadership and management traits in a business or organizational setting. Must be able to work well with others and follow directions. 

License or Certification

AALAS certification at technician or technologist level is required within 12 months of employment. AALAS certification as a Certified Manager Animal Resources is preferred.

Schedule Details

Monday - Friday. Start time is negotiable between 6 am - 8 am. 8 hour daily shifts. Job may occasionally require more time as needed to meet the needs of the department.

Weekend Schedule

On call every 5th weekend or as needed depending on staffing. Holidays on a rotation schedule with supervisor team.
