The Supervisor: Protection Services - Operations is accountable for coordinating and overseeing the protection services daily operations. The incumbent’s responsibilities include planning, scheduling and supervising daily operational activities relating to administration, guarding, access control, logistics, surveillance, investigations and operational response handling.  

 

Minimum Requirements:

 

Grade 12 or equivalent Diploma in Security Management or equivalent qualification At least 5 years’ supervisory experience on a mining operation, gold plant or precious metals environment Demonstrated track record in operational perimeter and access control management, incident investigation, emergency response and public order management Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations applicable to private security operations Firearm handling competency and proficiency Be declared medically fit for the position and environment, as determined by a risk-based medical examination at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test, and such other tests as may be required to assess the applicant’s suitability for employment

 

Key Competencies:

 

Proven personal safety record Sound interpersonal, collaborative and communication skills Effective communicator with sound spoken and written English communication skills Proven track record of applying initiative, being a self-starter and work independently Demonstrated track record in overseeing and supervising protection services operations Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Participate in operational safety, health, environmental and risk management campaigns, audits, incident management and investigations Conduct security risk evaluation and compliance audits ensuring compliance to security legislation and standards Participate in daily, weekly and ad hoc protection services operational incident reviews/investigations and proactive planning activities to ensure appropriate scheduling and assignment of operational teams, resources and operational readiness to manage daily protection services functions Lead and participate in operational team performance oversight and assessment ensuring that appropriate interventions are implemented to enhance operational delivery Supervise and oversee daily operational delivery effectiveness while assessing operational control effectiveness and conducting root cause analysis to identify potential system risks and weaknesses Co-develop, implement and monitor operational perimeter integrity and access control (personnel, vehicular, logistics, etc.) effectiveness and improvement interventions to ensure appropriate team and system remediation measures Continuously monitor availability, reliability and effectiveness of operational security technologies and administrative systems and recommend improvements as required Prepare and submit required operational reports ensuring timely and accurate escalation of identified operational risks and/or weaknesses Manage the delivery of contracted intermediary services ensuring adherence to agreed service level agreements and build effective relationships with associated vendors and stakeholders
