Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and management of daily work plans and assigning and directing field employees in the construction, operations, maintenance and repair of overhead and underground electric distribution infrastructure. Additionally, the candidate will develop capability, utilizing their leadership and analytical skills to prepare themselves for advancement opportunities. The ideal person will be able to facilitate solutions to complex issues involving diverse opinions, and ensures that solutions are aligned with customer expectations, Dominion Energy’s business initiatives, compliance requirements and labor agreements. 

Responsibilities: 

Ensures the safety of personnel by taking direct preventive measures, conducting effective weekly safety meetings and ensuring all related standards, rules and laws are understood and followed. Plans, coordinates and schedules work and ensures that work is performed in accordance with appropriate company standards and work methods including monitoring for high quality of workmanship. Ensures facilities are built right, providing confidence for future generations; Lead, train, and motivate, coach, mentor and counsel employees to meet the expectations of their positions. Responsible for overseeing procedures, training, equipment and with a personal commitment to eliminating unacceptable risk and exposure. Responsible for effective and efficient use of resources with emphasis on safety, customer satisfaction, quality improvement, cost and regulatory compliance. Ensures quality is a priority and that customer appointments and schedules are met. Assesses and improves team and employee performance through coaching and on-the-job training fostering an environment of teamwork, creativity and problem-solving. Shares information and encourages participation in the decision-making process. Provides employees with opportunities to grow and advance. Provides customers with accurate and timely information for new construction along with restoration events. Performs various administrative duties. Perform other duties as requested or assigned.
  Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Experience

Minimum of 7 years related experience in the utility field or at least 5 years of directly related experience with an associate’s degree or at least 3 years of directly related experience with a bachelor’s degree.  Note:  A partial year of related work experience of 6 months or greater will be considered one year towards the qualifications).

 

Strongly prefer and preference given to Graduate of a recognized Overhead Lineman Development Program. Ability to qualify to supervise 15kV & 40kV gloving.  Full knowledge of electrical distribution system; engineering; union contract; direct supervision of hourly and salaried employees; cost analysis; construction standards. Skills: strong verbal and written communication; supervisory and teaming; project and time management; organization. Experience in Production work is preferred.  Must qualify to perform Distribution, Transmission and Substation Switching.  Must live within or willing to relocate to a reasonable travel distance (60 min) and available to respond to emergencies such as outages and storm events on a 24/7 basis.  Demonstrated aptitude in the use of work management applications GIS scheduling tools and Microsoft Office.  Management skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and evaluate work as well as the ability to supervise and direct staff is essential to success in this position.  Excellent interpersonal skills: bias and the ability to develop and cultivate strong working relationships.  Effective written and oral communication skills.  Demonstrated experience in collaborating with a wide range of internal and external customers.  Abilities: decision making; handling constantly changing and emerging priorities; scheduling; motivating; physical attributes required to perform essential function of the job - walking, climbing, stooping, bending and prolonged standing.
  Education Requirements

Degree or an equivalent combination of education and demonstrated related experience may be accepted in lieu of preferred level of education: Associate; Bachelor.
