Position Summary:
The responsibilities of this position are to monitor, direct and motivate the performance of a team of Lab employees. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to devise and implement process improvements to increase workflow efficiencies. This position will test and approve hematology products for homogeneity during the bottling process by following established methods. Assist the QC Laboratory Manager with releasing products to bottle and ship, writing/proofing procedures, validating instruments, proofing labels, and assay sheets. Additional responsibilities include schedule creation, timecard approval, enforcing laboratory/company safety policies, and provide mentorship and scientific guidance to Laboratory Technicians. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
§ Supervise a team including setting goals for the team, performance management, career development, and overseeing daily work while contributing to the daily lab duties.
§ Work side by side with employees in the lab, mentoring, training, and motivating personnel.
§ Collaborate with cross functional teams to perform troubleshooting/process and product quality control.
§ Manage personnel performance, attendance, and schedules to perform and complete daily departmental activities according to departmental goals and initiatives.
§ Provide technical guidance for team members. Help team members overcome technical problems. Increase the knowledge of all team members.
§ Address employee issues and serve as a role model in professional behavior.
§ Lead the team in identifying and implementing process improvements that will increase workflow efficiencies.
§ Perform and interpret laboratory homogeneity testing on control product.
§ Proofread documents, labels, and assay sheets.
§ Troubleshoot the bottling and QC instruments when necessary.
§ Perform manual testing on controls.
§ Perform QC testing on 100% of the laboratory instruments.
§ Perform sign out of bulk tested and bottled product.
§ Handle customer complaints and follow up on trends.
§ Display a willingness to learn new concepts and techniques.
§ Write validation plans and perform validation of new analyzers.
§ Draft and revise SOPs as needed.
§ Follow company policies and practices as outlined in the Handbook and follows guidelines regarding safety as outlined in the AWAIR, Chemical Hygiene and Exposure Control manuals in accordance to the job.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
§ Bachelor/4-yr degree + 3 years exp., MLT + 5 years exp/, or 7-years exp.
§ Demonstrated leadership capacity required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
§ Knowledge of laboratory equipment, which includes the use of all instruments related to Hematology.
§ Ability to pay attention to details and perform at a high level of accuracy.
§ Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel are required.
§ Computer entry and/or typing skills are desirable.
§ Proficient in planning, organizational, and multi-tasking skills to complete assignments in an efficient manner in a fast-paced environment.
§ Ability to work independently and ability to collaborate across different groups.
§ Skills in problem solving including the ability to identify and appropriately evaluate an alternative course of action.
§ Skills in leading and supervising.
§ Skills in establishing effective interpersonal relationships such as the ability to solicit key ideas and information.
§ Strong ability to communicate professionally, both oral and written.
§ Ability to handle sensitive and proprietary information with discretion and confidentiality.
§ Ability to effectively train new employees.
§ Skills in planning such as identifying and organizing action steps to achieve desired results
