**Position Summary:** Supervises and coordinates the activities of nursing personnel within the hours of the assigned shift; maintains standards of patient care and manages unplanned events occurring during the shift toward a successful outcome; assists in and makes recommendations to Department Directors in the process of long term discipline, retention, termination, and performance evaluation; assumes responsibility for staff development during the assigned shift in accordance with the staff development plans of the Directors **Essential Functions and Responsibilities:** + Assists in maintaining the Hospital’s and Nursing Service’s philosophy through effective nursing care. + Makes staffing adjustments to meet patient care needs. + Approves overtime. + Controls staff by taking appropriate and corrective action. + Immediately investigates patient care incidents. + Maintains effective communication with the staff and Nursing Administration. + Promotes interdepartmental relationships. _Required:_ + Must have current RN license in the State of Michigan + Must have had at least two (2) years of nursing experience + BLS Certification through American Heart or American Red Cross + ACLScertification within 3 months of accepting position _Preferred:_ + Bachelors of Science in Nursing + Supervisory experience
