Job Summary

Summary
Under the general direction of the Laboratory Managers and Medical Director, this position is responsible for staff orientation, training, competency assessment, and daily supervision of work activities of personnel.

Essential Functions

Provides daily supervision of technical, clerical, and service employees.
Plans, organizes, delineates, and schedules duties and responsibilities of Laboratory staff in conjunction with the Laboratory Managers.
Assists other technologists as needed in technical problems and interpretation of results.
Determines priority of work in the laboratory, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
Responsible for ordering and maintaining an appropriate level of inventory and laboratory supplies.
Maintains manuals on all Standard Operating Procedures and required records and reports.
Ensures staff adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
Responsible for orientation, training, and competency assessments, ensuring staff:
Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples.
Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument, and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
Follow the laboratory's corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.
Be capable of identifying problems that may affect test performance or the reporting of results and either correct the problems or immediately notify the appropriate supervisor, technical consultant, or director.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.


 

Qualifications

Education
Bachelor's Degree Medical Technology required or Bachelor's Degree Laboratory Sciences required and Other Certificate/Diploma Clinical Laboratory Sciences required

Licenses and Credentials
Medical Technologist (ASCP) - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC)

Experience
lab experience 4 years required and supervisory experience 1-2 years preferred
