Supervisor Landscaping

The Landscaping Supervisor manages the horticulture requirements of Medxcel at the working location of St. Vincent's-Indianapolis, IN. By understanding and utilizing the Medxcel Facilities Management Landscaping Handbook, the Landscaping Supervisor will execute the plan to efficiently perform all landscaping services. This position supervises 5 – 15 employees, possibly more seasonal employees as needed, and may be called upon to provide specific horticultural information to assist other Supervisors or management. The Landscaping Supervisor is able to operate a variety of equipment and has a working knowledge of horticultural practices, woody and perennial plants cultural requirements, and pest management. Also, the Landscaping Supervisor should possess a basic understanding of the maintenance requirements of all Medxcel facilities hardscape elements including a basic understanding of irrigation principles. Responsibilities Administrative & Training: Ability to understand and utilize the Medxcel Facilities Management Landscaping Handbook to execute the plan to achieve success. Plans and organizes the day’s route, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available, and completes it in the most time-efficient manner. Ensures all work is completed in adherence to safety policies and guidelines. Conducts weekly safety training and safety inspections on job-sites. Ensures that competing tasks at each facility are organized and completed on a priority basis and within the parameters established. Considers improvements to facilities and makes recommendations to management. Manages a team of one or more employees, including handling personnel issues on-site and training employees on policies and procedures. Completes the necessary paperwork, including time sheets, work orders, etc. Maintains proper inventory of materials, equipment and other supplies are on hand to complete production activities. Plans and organizes snow removal during the winter months. Participates in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions. Provides additional support and training to Landscaping Technicians as needed. General Landscaping: Performs a wide variety of horticultural tasks to ensure an attractive landscape and an optimal level of plant health, including weed control, certain perennial cultural practices, pruning, pest treatments, and other routine lawn-care activities. May repair, replace, and/or clean brick pavers; replace dead or damaged plant material, noting probable cause of decline; repair or replace low-voltage lighting; service fountains or garden ponds; perform minor repairs on irrigation. Operates a variety of mechanical equipment including but not limited to mowers, back hoes, bobcats, dingos, tillers, sod cutters, weed eaters, plant augers, chain saws, and drills. Operates non-CDL automatic and manual vehicles, such as dump trucks and truck and trailer combinations. Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment. Other duties as assigned. Chemical Treatments: Diagnoses pest issues, makes recommendations, and/or takes remedial action as directed by standard company policy or management. Diagnoses other site problems and makes recommendations for their improvement. Applies chemicals under the direction of licensed custom applicator. Special Projects: Assist and participate in special projects as assigned. Assist and support the Facilities Maintenance staff on projects as assigned. Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent -required. License/Certification: Valid state driver’s license -required. Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) -preferred. Pesticide certification -preferred. Experience: Five years’ experience in the Landscaping field -required. Three years’ supervisory experience -required. Competencies: Candidate must be able to read and write English. Ability to operate a truck and trailer combination proficiently. Strong oral communication skills, job planning skills, and mechanical aptitude are a must. The successful individual will have a working knowledge of standard horticultural practices including paver, pond, low-voltage lighting and irrigation troubleshooting. #MFMLNDSP
