Supervisor - Nuclear Training - Ops

Testing Required:

On-Site Role: Must be available to work on-site at this assigned work location.

Emergency Response: Yes – Must be available to perform a primary assignment in support of DTE’s emergency response to storms or other events that impact service to our customers.

Job Summary

Responsible for facilitating alignment and providing governance over all aspects of initial and/or continuing training, including the operations examination process.  Ensures training programs comply with company standards, Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations, Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) accreditation criteria, and other codes, standards and regulatory requirements. Interfaces with the line organization and training committees, to coordinate, plan and control training activities. Evaluates training program performance. Provides input to the budget and continuously seeks methods to improve efficiency and reduce costs. Implements the Human Performance and Corrective Action programs for Nuclear Training. Provides guidance and work direction to training instructors and students.

Key Accountabilities

• Supervises Assigned Training instructional staff in implementing all phases of the Systematic Approach to Training.
• Implements accredited training programs to ensure compliance with the requirements of the appropriate National Academy for Nuclear Training documents (ACADs).
• Sets standards and monitors the implementation of the systematic approach to training to ensure it is consistently implemented to improve performance, manage risk, implement excellence plans, and comply with training process standards to meet station needs.
• Participates in site, industry, and regulator training initiatives such as workshops, benchmarking, assessments, and accreditation team visits as assigned.
• Works with the line organization to identify performance deficiencies. Supervises performance analyses and training needs analyses to resolve performance issues.
• Observes and evaluates instructor performance, trainee progress and course effectiveness to produce improvements in the accredited training program and client group performance.
• Responsible for overseeing the modifications of the training programs based on the line feedback, operating experience, industry guidelines, federal guidelines and changing industry conditions.
• Manages the programs, personnel, contractors, contracts, purchases and resources necessary to effectively implement the training programs and stay within an annual budget.
• Models and reinforces management expectations for industrial and nuclear safety, procedure adherence and training conduct for instructors and trainees.
• Verifies training activities are performed by, or under the supervision of, personnel who have completed applicable qualifications for the tasks to be performed.
• Ensures training instructors obtain and maintain their technical and instructional knowledge and skills.
• Interfaces with NRC and INPO to ensure training programs follow current regulations.
• Performs or ensures the accomplishment of the following core supervisory/management functions for a given group(s) within a business unit; planning, organizing, directing the performance of on-going activities and/or special/ad hoc assignments, staffing (employee selections, training, coaching and performance management, time entry), coordinating, reporting and budgeting.

Minimum Education & Experience Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent GED and eight years of Nuclear power plant experience; inclusive of four years of experience in Nuclear Accredited Training Program within specific discipline OR
• Associate degree in engineering, science, education or related technical field and six years of Nuclear Power Plant experience inclusive of three years of experience in Nuclear Accredited Training Program within specific discipline, OR
• Bachelor’s degree in science/engineering and four years of industry related experience inclusive of two years of experience with implementation of training programs using the systematic approach to training (SAT) process within specific discipline.

 

Supervisor, Operations Training


 Experience must be in Nuclear Operations Accredited Training with implementation of licensed operator training programs.
 Must hold or have held a Senior Reactor Operator License or Certification or Reactor Operator License at Fermi or a similar facility.


Supervisor, Technical Training


• Experience must be in Nuclear Technical Accredited Training in one of more of the following disciplines: Instruments and Controls, Engineering, Chemistry, Radiation Protection, Electrical Maintenance or Mechanical Maintenance;
 

Other Qualifications

• Must obtain Senior Reactor Operator Certification/License within twelve months (Operations)
• Maintains instructor and SRO License or certification qualifications. (Operations)
• Must participate as an Emergency Response Organization ERO member and responds to call-ins as appropriate.
• Computer Skills: MS Word, Excel and Power Point.
• Must be able to pass all phases of in-processing including a background investigation, psychological screening, appropriate radiation worker/respiratory training and be medically certifiable drug and alcohol screen.
• Understanding of regulatory and industry requirements associated with implementing the operator training programs.
• Ability to work effectively with people at all levels within and outside the company.
• Communication and presentation skills. Must be able to effectively prepare and present classroom presentations.
• Experience overseeing and using the Systematic Approach to Training process.
• Experience in conducting and using performance analysis techniques.
• Must meet regulatory requirements per Fermi procedures.
