PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
Leading the Tie & Timber Maintenance team, you'll manage equipment maintenance and perform hands-on repair for the railroad tie plant to minimize downtime.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Forecasts the useful life of equipment and schedules preventive maintenance. Coordinates the overhaul program which may lead to internal overhaul or a third-party contract. Leads quality assurance for internal and third-party repairs. Supervises the day-to-day activity of the Maintenance Technician and makes recommendations regarding hiring, performance, and termination. Uses welding and cutting tools to maintain and repair equipment and enable safe operation. Inspects and replaces equipment parts such as engines, tires, hydraulic cylinders, etc. Services engines and exchanges fluids in equipment as needed. Closely follows safety procedures to ensure safe working conditions for themselves, plant workers, and equipment operators. Trains equipment operators and qualifies them for forklift operation. May fill in for Operations Supervisor as needed. Demonstrates operational excellence by knowing and applying the business requirements. Demonstrates customer focus and prioritization to ensure collaborator expectations are met. Understands the relevant business metrics and applies efficient tactics to sustain a culture of operational efficiency that produces teams of high-performing, engaged, and empowered operational leaders. Identifies violations, holds one-on-one conversations, and uses Consequence Leadership toolkit. Shows CPKC's dedication to Home SAFE through effective communication, teamwork, safety, and respect. Clearly defines team roles; holds accountable for objectives; rewards achievers; gives specific performance feedback. POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum of two years of continued progress and proven record in Superior Tie & Timber work, which includes at least two of the following:
High School diploma or GED Five years’ work in General Maintenance Two years of leadership experience or Foreman of a large work crew Proficiency in one or more disciplines of railroad operations Experience with electric motors and pumps
Preferred
Familiarity with hazardous materials and handling certification preferred Certified Welder (CW) preferred

Management Conductor Program:
Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CPKC. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
