Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Information and Technology, Field Support Directorate, East Texas Region with one vacancy that can be filled in Dallas, Irving, or Euless TX. Location Preference: You may select ONE location where you would be willing to work. Responsibilities Joining Customs & Border Protection will allow you to use your expertise in Information Technology principles, concepts and methods to support Information Technology systems and services. This position starts at a salary of $114,566.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $148,937.00 (GS-13, Step 10). In this Supervisory Information Technology Specialist position, you will become a key team member of Homeland Security professionals providing support and guidance on Information Technology systems and services. Qualifications BASIC REQUIREMENT: Applicants must have Information Technology-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. You qualify for this position if you meet the basic requirement listed above and possess one year of specialized experience as described below. Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Supporting IT systems and services by developing new methods, approaches and procedures. Diagnosing and resolving problems in response to customer reported incidents involving different platforms, operating systems, applications and desktop configurations. Researching, evaluating and providing feedback on problematic trends and patterns. Planning, designing, developing and integrating network systems consistent with existing or planned network infrastructures. Installing, configuring, troubleshooting and maintaining customer hardware and software. Individuals are required to have physically resided in the United States or its protectorates (as declared under international law) for at least three of the last five years. Additional Information Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment. Leadership Training: All newly appointed first-time CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include 3 weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed. Bargaining Unit: This position is not covered under the bargaining unit. Telework: Telework may be available on a regular recurring or situational basis. On Call: This position may require the incumbent to be on call 24 hours per day, seven days per week. Passport: There may be international duty assignments which would require you to obtain an official passport. Motor Vehicle Operation: You must possess a valid state driver's license at the time of appointment. Physical Demands: You may be required to climb tall ladders, towers, and other structures. You may be required to perform lifting and/or moving of equipment up to 50 pounds. The work may be performed in an electronics shop, remote sites (which may require alternative modes of transportation), and/or in outlying and remote stations. You must work under conditions of extreme stress and tension as a result of the need to maintain equipment in optimum working conditions.
