SUPERVISORY IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK/SYSADMIN)
Summary You will serve as a SUPERVISORY IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK/SYSADMIN) in the INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT (N6) of FLEET WEATHER CENTER SAN DIEGO. Responsibilities You will act as the Technical Services Supervisor, senior technical advisor, and subject matter expert on Technical Services and facility-related matters. You will establish performance measures for customer support and operational aspects of networks and systems supports. You will prepare, review, and/or approve recommended incentive awards for subordinate personnel. You will perform work that involves the planning, analysis, design, development, testing, quality assurance, configuration, installation, implementation, integration, maintenance, and/or management of networks for the FWC-SD systems. You will provide systems administration services such as adding, deleting, and modifying accounts, and access to systems. You will analyze hardware and software malfunctions to resolve physical and logical processing problems. You will serve as a senior customer technical analyst with responsibility for resolving the most complex customer problems. You will record problems as they occur and analyze data to determine trends in use or performance that could lead to future problems. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for the SUPERVISORY IT SPECIALIST (NETWORK/SYSADMIN), GS-2210-13, your resume must demonstrate at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience AND four competencies equivalent to the level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience using IT and communication systems integrations methods, performance tuning methods, IT security principles and methods, and project management principles and methods sufficient to plan and coordinate the installation of new products or equipment. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to solve complex problems and provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers. Experience using network operations and maintenance methods; network architecture optimization techniques; the capabilities and limitations of the computer equipment and system software configuration in order to manage the network, carry out network and/or telecommunications project and coordinate efforts with others affected within the organizations. Experience in systems development, modification, testing, installation, operations, and maintenance methods as well as the organization's network and communications architecture and protocols to provide support related to: installation, configuration and modification of hardware and software for operating systems, network platform, interface connectivity; etc.; provision of network services and planning for increased or changed requirements; modifications and integration of network and communications systems consistent with existing or planned infrastructure/architecture; configuration management changes and upgrades; and connectivity between remote sites. Experience using methods, principles, and practices covering troubleshooting of complex computer and communications systems failures, recovery of systems, adjusting, modifying, and improving systems to include hardware and software components. Experience communicating effectively both orally and in writing and maintain effective relationships. Experience and the ability to stay well informed on rapidly changing technology to evaluate its possible impact on organization missions and to develop plans to satisfy requirements. Experience reviewing, analyzing, and resolving difficult and complex technical problems involving systems compatibility, both installation-wide and external interoperability, circuits, switches, and networking.
