SUPERVISORY MISSION SUPPORT SPECIALIST
Summary Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, San Diego Sector, Mission Readiness Operations Division, Personnel & Finance Branch, Workers' Compensation & Injury Management located in Chula Vista, CA. Responsibilities This supervisory mission support position allows you to use your knowledge and experience supervising a team that plans and carries out a wide variety of mission support, workforce management, administrative research, and program planning activities related to the missions and functions of the Mission Readiness Operations. This position starts at a salary of $117,776.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $153,113.00 (GS-13, Step 10). As a Supervisory Mission Support Specialist, you will provide senior level advice regarding complex administrative services and support. Typical work assignments will include: Supervising mission support specialist employees who carry out the function of the Sector workers' compensation office. Planning, directing, and coordinating work, setting priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of work. Developing performance standards, rating employee performance, and identifying and scheduling training needs. Interpreting and applying guidelines related to workers' compensation/injury benefits to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and procedures in accordance with the Federal Employees' Compensation Act (FECA). Processing workers' compensation claims and conducting proactive case management. Developing new or modified administrative program work methods and procedures for delivering effective services to customers. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Interpreting and applying guidelines related to workers' compensation benefits; Developing and implementing administrative policies related to system access, records management, process audits and workers compensation; Analyzing data from a variety of sources to develop trends, patterns, and estimates; Meeting complex planning needs and unanticipated requirements to provide reports including providing recommendations, conclusions/solutions, and alternatives. Additional Information Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment. Leadership Training: All newly appointed first-time CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include (SLT) 3 weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed. Upon selection, you may be eligible for Creditable Service for Annual Leave accrual. This incentive may allow the agency to give credit for qualifying non-federal or active duty military service to set annual leave accrual rates above the minimum level.
