Summary This position serves as the Infection Prevention and Control Specialist at the Colorado River Service Unit, Parker, AZ. It also serves the Chemehuevi Clinic, Havasu Lake, CA, Peach Springs Health Center, Peach Springs, AZ., Supai Clinic, Supai, AZ., and Irene Benn Medical Center, Moapa, NV. This position serves in a supervisory/managerial capacity overseeding the Infection Prevention and Control Program for the entire service unit. This position reports to the Quality Management Director. Responsibilities Provides leadership in the ongoing review and development of clinical practice in compliance to Infection Prevention and Control regulations. Develops new policies and procedures utilizing current literature and in compliance with federal, state and other regulatory standards. Monitors and document surveillance/performance improvement activities to ensure compliance with the standards by making regular scheduled and impromptu rounds. Supervises employees responsible for the Employee Health and Surveillance Programs, Infection Control Nurse, and Environmental Service Supervisor. Provides supervision to implement, maintain, and evaluate data, information systems and process to meet regulatory requirements. Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 40 hours per week. You will need to set up direct deposit so we can pay you. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-13 - Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Developing policies and procedures for infection control to ensure compliance with accreditation requirements. Knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices and procedure to adequately apply infection control practice to nursing and clinical programs. Knowledge of Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources Services Administration, Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services, Center of Disease Control and Occupational Safety Health Association's policies and guidelines. Ability to analyze data, conduct rounds and initiate the appropriate action with the findings. Skill in research methodology including design, data collection, and analysis required for interpreting current research articles and reports. Experience with conducting educational training on infection prevention in a large group setting. Skill with providing oversight, direction and coordination of projects and investigations related to infection control services. Additional Information Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is NOT covered by a Bargaining Unit. Recruitment or Relocation Incentives or Permanent Change of Station may be authorized and is subject to availability and service unit approval.
