Summary This position is located in the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Office of Communications (OC), Media Affairs Division (MAD). The incumbent of this position is responsibile for leading a team in developing and implementing strategic communication plans, managing media relations and public outreach, handling crisis communication, and ensuring compliance with policies and ethical standards. Responsibilities As a Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist, you will be responsible for the following duties: Supervise, mentor, and evaluate a team of public affairs specialists, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities to enhance team performance and productivity. Oversees and manages responses to national and local media inquiries, including those received via direct contact, calls, and emails through the media line and inbox, ensuring timely handling. Oversees the creation of extensive and detailed public outreach, educational, and media affairs programs, addressing complex and challenging public affairs issues for OJP. Plans and oversees all phases of OJP publication production, including editing and rewriting material before publication to ensure its readiness. Ensures the Media Affairs team prioritizes building strong relationships with reporters and delivering a positive experience by providing timely and accurate information. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Examples of specialized experience include: Directed all phases of agency publication production, including guiding the work of print and electronic media reporting and overseeing the coordination of speeches and talking points covering various topics. Managed public relations programs involving controversial issues or issues of significant public or Congressional interest. Directed all phases of agency publication production operations. This position has a duty station of Washington, D.C. The selectee will be required to physically report to the OJP office building at least four (4) days per bi-weekly pay period and may incorporate leave and official travel plans into this reporting requirement. The office director or supervisor may request the selectee's presence in the office more frequently, as determined by the needs of the office. The selectee will be responsible for covering all commuting-related travel expenses. OJP employees are eligible for one transportation benefit - parking or the Department of Justice (DOJ) transit subsidy.
