Supervisory Transportation Assistant

Responsibilities Serves as a supervisor with responsibility for planning and directing the activities of employees engaged in performing a wide variety of transportation duties and complex technical transportation functions. Reviews operating performance data relative to established goals, assessing qualitative aspects of program operations and resource utilization. Accountable and responsible for the assigned program(s) to include development, documentation, and operation of both internal processes and administrative controls. Interviews applicants and recommends selection for promotion, reassignment, and appointment. Hears and resolves employee complaints, referring group grievances and more serious unresolved complaints to higher level management. Furnishes employees assignments and place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are likely to cause death or serious physical harm; refers matters that exceed the incumbents authority to higher levels of management for decision. Plans and coordinates branch/office operations and work efforts with that of other branches and divisions and commercial carrier activities, to ensure that information provided to serviced activities is accurate and consistent. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications To qualify for a Supervisory Transportation Assistant, your qualifications must include: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-10 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Uses established procedures and standing route orders to arrange for shipment of or general freight for Foreign Military Sales (FMS), Transportation Contracts (air and surface), Domestic Freight Routing Request Orders, and Export Release freight. Initiates freight release, creating vehicle load orders for a variety of modes, recommending changes in routing and or mode of transportation for more economical rates to meet required delivery dates. Education: Applicants may not qualify for this position based on education in lieu of specialized experience Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
