As a Supplier Development Engineer at Caterpillar, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring robust process controls to prevent nonconformities. You'll continuously monitor suppliers' key manufacturing processes and quality management systems for improvement opportunities, and assist with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities to ensure production readiness for New Product Introduction (NPI). This dynamic position offers the chance to work on cutting-edge projects, travel globally, and make a significant impact on our operations.  

 

What You Will Do:    

Responsible for supplier processes from design to end of product life. 

Ensures supplier quality management systems and capabilities are adequate. 

Manages APQP activities and helps suppliers extract value from the process. 

Reviews and audits APQP documentation and process control implementation. 

Ensures resolution of quality issues and validates corrective action plans. 

Conducts quality system audits and Supplier Evaluation Surveys (SES). 

Leads Supplier Performance Management Reviews (SPM) and supports 6 Sigma initiatives. 

Executes activities from CPPD, NPI, and CPI teams to improve supplier processes. 

 

 

What you have    

Effective Communications: Develops cooperative working relationships with suppliers and internal teams, ensuring all relevant requirements and changes are thoroughly documented. 

Problem Solving: Leads problem resolution efforts, including the review, approval, and validation of 8D permanent corrective action plans, and ensures robust solutions for quality issues. 

Process Improvement: Manages APQP activities, participates in process FMEA, and works with suppliers to reduce waste and improve process capability and efficiency. 

Quality Orientation: Ensures the adequacy of the supplier’s quality management system, audits process control implementation, and validates process capability. 

Supplier Management: Monitors supplier performance, conducts quality system audits and Supplier Evaluation Surveys (SES), and leads Supplier Performance Management Reviews (SPM). 

PPAP and Manufacturing Standards: Ensures PPAP completion and approval, reviews APQP documentation, and supports 6 Sigma initiatives with suppliers. 

  

Top Candidates will have the following:     

Quality Engineering Certification: Demonstrated expertise in quality management and certification, such as Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt. Minitab experience plus. 

Strong Negotiation and Analytical Skills: Proven ability to interpret, analyze, and negotiate contractual cost elements, with excellent problem-solving and project management skills. 

In-depth Knowledge of Manufacturing Processes: Extensive experience with manufacturing processes, supplier management, and familiarity with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), and quality system audits.

Caterpillar operates in a hybrid work environment, requiring a minimum of 3 days per week of onsite, in office work. 

Travel: 25%, domestic and international

Summary Pay Range:

$110,520.00 - $165,840.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
