Supplier Quality Assurance Specialist

The Quality Assurance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the quality and reliability of all purchased parts and materials utilized in manufacturing and production processes. This involves inspecting, testing, and analyzing all components to ensure compliance with established quality standards. Additionally, the Supplier Quality Assurance Specialist collaborates closely with suppliers to resolve any quality-related issues.

Essential functions

Inspecting parts and working closely with the Engineering and Production teams to ensure parts meet the required specifications. Maintain relationships with vendors to uphold the established quality standards agreed upon between Fontaine and Suppliers as well as following up to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to restore quality standards when deviations in quality are discovered.Digitally document and record data to track deviations in parts quality.Support the Quality Reject/Hold process by tracking non-conforming parts and inventory to ensure that inventory stays accurate, and production isn’t impacted.Daily contacts with suppliers regarding supplier quality related issues.Regular on-site reviews with key vendors.  These reviews should focus on continuous improvement opportunities to further improve the quality of materials being provided to Fontaine.Perform Process Audits at suppliers and drive suppliers to close identified gaps.Drive the use of LEAN to eliminate waste and make process improvements.Perform all other duties in the best interest of the company or as directed by the Director of Supply Chain.

Education and/or experience:

Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in quality management, or a related technical field required, additional education and/or certification in quality assurance or relevant field highly preferredProfessional Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in supplier quality assurance, or a related field within a manufacturing or production environment.Specialized Knowledge: Demonstrated expertise in quality management systems, supplier audits, and compliance with industry standards such as ISO, or similar. Understanding of engineering drawings and prints, with the ability to interpret and apply specifications in quality assessments.Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in quality tools and methodologies, including but not limited to Lean principles and methodologies, root cause analysis, and statistical process control (SPC).

The individual must have both strong leadership skills, financial acumen and an excellent understanding of supply chain processes and good knowledge of ERP systems (Sage X3).  Effective interpersonal skills, written and oral presentation skills, collaborative problem-solving skills, and project management skills are essential.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsible for building and organizing a high performing Supply Chain team.  Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
