Supplier Quality Engineer, Staff - Coatings

Overview

JOB SUMMARY:
Staff Supplier Quality Engineer- coatings works closely with plating and coatings suppliers and internal teams to develop their capabilities to ensures the quality of A-dec parts. Applies extensive and diversified knowledge of advanced engineering and tooling techniques, procedures, and criteria to lead or perform complex engineering assignments towards the development of new or refined part plating or coating processes. The person fulfilling this role must also be tenacious, resourceful, collaborative, and influential.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Independently plans, schedules, and leads complex and technical supplier and internal quality projects requiring independent judgement in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation of various engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.    Leads supplier and internal technical process development projects.  Works with suppliers on process changes as necessary that will ensure the supplier can consistently exceed a-dec quality requirements.Leads the plating and coatings escalation process driving immediate action to part quality issues at inspection, assembly, in the field, etc. Supports the buyers, inspectors, manufacturing and suppliers on containment and replacement. Leads the failure analysis efforts to determine root cause corrective and preventative actions. Validates and verifies supplier actions for effectiveness.Leads supplier continuous improvement programs to increase yield, eliminate waste and enable cost reductions utilizing quality tools such as Lean Six Sigma, and SPC.Collaborates with Purchasing, Quality and Engineering to improve business and supplier quality processes.Lead internal and external supplier CAPAs for platings and coatingsOften will be a lead for a department, representing their team on key programs and projects.Participates in professional organizations and other networks to remain current with material and technological innovations.Requests, reviews, and provides input on critical dimension capability studies, packaging plans, control plans, supplier process documentation, measurement systems analysis, etc. Works with suppliers to improve capability where needed.Investigates potential supply chain cost savings opportunities both internally and with our suppliers. Supports cost savings initiatives through part/material/supplier qualification.Proactively identifies and mitigates risks along with associated preventive actions to avoid potential supplier quality issues utilizing experience, incoming inspection history and supplier control plans.Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Extensive experience in part plating and coating processes, equipment, and standards. Proven experience leading and managing time and resources effectively for project/program level cross-functional project teams.  Comprehensive Supplier development experience with the knowledge and skills to interpret on a broad basis the principles, theories, and concepts of an engineering specialty to apply interpretations of related disciplines to area of technical expertise.In-depth skills in mentoring others and to independently analyzing moderately complex problems to determine innovative and ingenious solutions theories and concepts.In-depth knowledge of supplier quality management, technical root cause analysis, process efficiency, cost reduction, project management, statistical analysis, quality measurement, and continuous improvement.Thorough skills communicating effectively, including presentations to senior management (Internally and at suppliers); lead supplier audits; and apply FMEA and risk analysis in the evaluation of suppliers, parts, and manufacturing processes.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or equivalent with ten (10) years or more experience in the quality assurance, engineering, and/or manufacturing engineering fields with experience of increasing responsibility and difficulty of assignment.Extensive experience in part plating and coating processes, equipment, and standards. Proven experience leading and managing time and resources effectively for project/program level cross-functional project teams.  

Preferred Experience

Specialty quality software packages for both statistics and CAPA is preferred.Experience with Quality Systems (ISO 13485, 9001, AS9100)Regulated medical equipment industry experience.Experience with product regulations for global products (Material Compliance, Safety, EMC, Environmental)
