Supply Chain Management/Logistics Internship
 Position Summary: 
This internship’s focus will be on a Lean Project related to trailer damage auditing, providing the intern with hands-on experience in process improvement, data analysis, and operational efficiency within a logistics and transportation environment.

This position is usually a 1st shift position, however, the intern will benefit more by being flexible to work a variety of shifts.  Days are usually Monday - Friday.

The Internship is approximately 8–12-week program. 
Pay: $22.00 per hour 
Days: Monday – Friday with weekends as needed, based on the locations needs
Program Starts - June 2025

Key Project: Lean Trailer Auditing

The primary objective of this internship is to conduct a Lean-focused project aimed at improving trailer auditing/trailer damage mitigation processes.

The intern will:
• Assess Current State: Conduct an in-depth analysis of the current trailer auditing process, identifying inefficiencies, gaps, and areas for improvement.
• Data Collection & Analysis: Gather and analyze trailer usage, dwell times, and inventory accuracy to identify patterns and improvement opportunities.
• Process Optimization: Apply Lean methodologies (such as 5S, root cause analysis, and waste elimination) to develop recommendations for streamlining trailer audits.
• Implementation Support: Assist in implementing improvements, including process changes, training materials, and documentation updates.
• Performance Tracking: Develop key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the success of process changes and provide regular progress reports.

Intern Responsibilities
• Work closely with operations and logistics teams to understand trailer auditing challenges.
• Conduct field studies and interviews with stakeholders.
• Utilize Lean tools and techniques to analyze and optimize auditing processes.
• Present findings and recommendations to leadership.
• Support implementation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications
• Pursuing a degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Business, or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Familiarity with Lean methodologies preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, data analysis, and reporting.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Qualifications:• Students must be currently pursuing a degree in Supply Chain Management/Logistics, Operations Management or Business Management required• High School diploma required• Basic computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint required• Ability to learn and use proprietary software required• Flexible to rotate through different shifts to gain experience preferred• Ability to work in non-climate controlled conditions• Ability to lead a small team, ability to work independently, multi-tasking skills, organizational skills, flexibility, time management, and ability to execute are required• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job.• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening required.
