Support Services Assistant (Laundry & Housekeeping)

Overview

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•    Loads, washes, dries, and folds clothing, towels, linens, blankets, bedspreads, curtains, and other items.  Sorts items by student name and organizes in baskets by program area, preparing baskets for pickup.
•    Replaces items that have been damaged or have been out-grown. Issues clothing for seasonal changes.  Takes measurements to ensure correct fit and size.  
•    Assists with the clothing needs for student discharges, admissions, and special occasions.  
•    Labels student belongings upon admission or as needed when receiving new items.  
•    Receives linen and towel counts, and fills orders to keep items stocked appropriately.
•    Assists in the cleaning and organizing of areas in the Clothing Services Department.
•    Cleans assigned areas according to Housekeeping procedures and standards.
•    Ensures linen and other supplies are stocked to meet the needs of assigned areas.  Counts towels and linen from assigned areas and communicates information weekly.
•    Communicates observations and environmental concerns to the SSS and may collaborate with staff from various departments on providing a cohesive plan for use and care of space.
•    Reports items that are damaged to the SSS and completes the appropriate paperwork to initiate repairs to the Maintenance Department.
•    Follows procedures for student admissions and discharges.  Prepares bedrooms and living spaces accordingly.  Ensures all students have the necessary hygiene items available upon admission.
•    When assigned to a group home may launder curtains, blankets, bedspreads, and cleaning rags as needed.
•    Ensures OSHA and other safety regulations are implemented and enforced at all times.
•    Conducts self in positive, respectful, and collaborative manner demonstrating proactive actions and decision making that foster supportive work relationships and a healthy and safe environment.  Communicates effectively verbally and in writing with internal and external customers maintaining professional conduct and confidentiality.  
•    Maintains abreast of current trends in services and other related areas; attends conferences, workshops and other training as needed and shares this new information with department.
•    Complies with and positively reinforces with others the expectations outlined in: MyPath Company Handbook; policies and procedures including emergency/disaster procedures, fire/tornado safety and maintains confidentiality. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
•    High school diploma or equivalent required.
•    A minimum of 1 year of experience in care of clothing, linen, bedding, and draperies in a commercial setting preferred.
•    Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement and effectively solve problems, including the ability to troubleshoot malfunctioning equipment. 
•    Must be self-motivated and able to work independently under minimal work direction.
•    Remains calm under pressure and maintains self-composure/self-control in times of high stress or when others are excited.

WORKING CONDITIONS:  
•    Bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, walking, standing (for period up to 2 hours at a time), and bilateral manual dexterity to perform essential job functions. 
•    Ability to lift 30 lbs regularly and up to 60 lbs occasionally.  
•    Ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
•    Ability to sit for periods of up to two hours.
 

Additional Information

Pay rate- $16.75/hour
