ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT: The Support Staff provides assistance to the Diesel Shop and Car Shop with handling and delivering material and parts, operating the forklift, and cleaning in a safe and efficient manner. MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES: + Cleaning and washing duties + Delivering parts + Operating a forklift + Sand and glass blasting + Removing carpeting, tape and ty-rap + Working with glue, seam sealer, paint stripper + Tagging parts removed from equipment + Adapts to new methods, processes, material and equipment + Follows prescribed safety procedures including the use of safety clothing and equipment + May work various shifts including weekends and some work outdoors in adverse weather + May include performing preparatory work to coaches on the assembly line + Performs other related duties as assigned + Current shift schedules are: + Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. or 4:00pm - 12:00am + Sunday 4:00pm - 12:00am/8:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday - Thursday REQUIREMENTS: + Secondary School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) + Previous cleaning/labour experience + Good interpersonal and communication skills (oral & written) + Excellent organizational and planning skills + Experience operating a forklift considered an asset + Demonstrated ability to work in a unionized team environment + Must be available for shift work + Valid driver’s license an asset + Previous railway experience an asset + Must be committed to Company Health and Safety BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION: The successful candidate will need to pass the following clearances: criminal record check, employment references and education verification.
