28Gundersen Health System is seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our Winona Campus laboratory team as phlebotomist. Phlebotomists, C.N.A.s, PCTs, CMAs, or other individuals that has an interest in working in a laboratory are encouraged to apply. Prior lab experience is preferred but not required as we will provide on-the-job training!
What You'll Do:
As a Support Staff Technician/Phlebotomist, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare field by facilitating the flow of specimens into the lab for diagnostic testing. Specimen collection techniques include venipuncture, capillary draws, swab collections, urine collections, and providing instruction to patients for self-collections. In this role, you will support core lab functions at Gundersen Health System's state-of-the-art Winona Campus and Urgent Care. Your attention to detail, knowledge of laboratory procedures, and ability to provide excellent patient care will contribute to the overall success of our organization.
Primary Responsibilities:
Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate specimen collection and processing
Follow established protocols and safety guidelines to maintain a sterile and safe environment
Monitor vital signs and assess patient condition before, during, and after specimen collection
Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood samples from patients
Prepare specimens for laboratory testing and ensure proper storage and transportation
Adhere to quality control procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens and test results
Maintain accurate records of all procedures performed and ensure confidentiality of patient information
Verify patient information and ensure accurate labeling of specimens
What's Available:
Part-time, 56 hours biweekly (0.7 FTE)
Primarily day shifts (7a-3:30p, 8:30a-5p) with an occasional evening shift (3p-9p). Every 4th weekend (Saturday & Sunday) from 9a-5p and 2 holidays per year
Will orientate full time, must be available 8a-4:30p to train first week in La Crosse, WI for phlebotomy; after the first week will orientate in Winona, MN
Starting pay of $16.21/hr and up, based on your years of experience, along with generous evening and weekend shift differentials
What You'll Need:
High School Diploma or equivalency. A copy of the applicant's/employee's diploma and/or transcript as confirmation of the education requirement must be provided at time of hire
Strong customer service skills with the ability to provide compassionate care to patients
Effective communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and laboratory staff
Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment
Previous phlebotomy/medical experience preferred, but not required
