I.     Major Responsibilities:

1.    Provides supervision and monitoring of daily activities and assigned personnel associated with the Clinical Documentation Improvement Department. 
2.    Reviews inpatient medical records, compliantly querying providers as needed, for identified populations. Analyzes clinical status of patient, current treatment plan and past medical history and identifies potential gaps in physician documentation.
3.    Provides training and technical assistance to employees, ensuring personnel are provided with appropriate resources and materials within the assigned work area.
4.    Provides effective direction, guidance, and leadership over assigned personnel for effective teamwork and motivation and fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives.
5.    Relays work instruction from the Manager of CDI.

II.     Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1.    Associate’s degree and Massachusetts licensure as a registered nurse or M.D. or D.O. or equivalent.  

Experience/Skill:
Required:
1.    Minimum three years’ experience in Clinical Documentation Improvement.  
2.    Excellent critical thinking skills.
3.    Knowledge of care delivery documentation systems and related medical record documents.
4.    Broad-based clinical knowledge and understanding of pathology/pathophysiology.
5.    Ability to adapt to changes in the workload, to work independently and to effectively prioritize work assignments. 

Preferred:
1.    Experience supervising staff.  

Unless certification, licensure or registration is required, an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed in this description may be substituted for the above requirements.
